I just used my car beams to light up the lume on my new Speedmaster '57 and I noticed that the lume on the hour and minute hand is unevenly lighting up. As I only have a cellphone at the moment, it is really difficult to capture it in pictures, but I think you can see what I mean, at least on the minute hand. Not that it really bothers me, but you know how the saying is: Once seen can never be made unseen. Is that normal, do you also have the same uneven light from your hands on your modern Speedmasters? It's much better visible if you look at it than what you can see in the pictures. And here's how it looks during daytime
I had one of those exact 57s and had no such issue. Sold it several months ago, though. But that’s not right. Needs hand replacement.
To me that is very normal, simply due to how the lume spreads/flows when it is applied on the hand. I've seen it in practically in all watches (not just Omega) where the area to be lumed is not just a straight line (like the moonwatch hands). It is only visible when the lume is charged with a strong light source. In normal usage you wouldn't really notice it. My recommendation is to leave it...very likely Omega will say it is within tolerances.
Don’t forget the minute and hour hand are thinner and not backed by the dial. Think more like stain glass windows compared to paint on a wall like the minute markers.
To be honest, it didn't bother me enough to take it to the OB yet. As stated by Exarkun12 above you can only see it for a short time after fully pumping up the lume with the car beams. I was just wondering if that is normal, which, according to some of you, seems to be the case.
