Well, I am starting to learn about the ref 2998….

Comparing to 105.012:s and Ed Whites, this feels like really really outlandish!
Most of the ones that I look at have some kind of replacements or have other strange stuff going on?
I do know that there are very fine ones out there, but I cant keep on selling my other stuff to afford this hobby!
    ;)
This one has a bezel that has seen better days, lots of the fonts are scratched, but it should be correct for the watch.
Stepped dial, Swiss Made on the bottom, with lumeplots that are ok (for me...).
Its hard to see the condition of the dial, I have asked for more pictures, but no success with that yet.
Watch is from 1962, Serial nr is 18.9 mil, waiting for more info on this also..
Alpha hands that looked a bit chewed up, but correct, not sure about the chronohand?
And the subdial hands must be from an older watch?
Cant tell on the pushers and crown.
No picture of the movement or caseback…

    No service/owner history.
Theres an extract showing some details, but most is covered up!

How the Fudge can people get stuff sold with so little info??
I like the look of this one, but i have to learn much more, and build up my confidence!

I do need more info from them but for now:
You guys who know more, please guide me in this crazy/lovely world!

Cheers from a cold and snowy Sweden!

I'm sorry, what is the question?
Form what I can see watch looks pretty nice but as you say, need more pics. Is there a price being asked?

Not atypical for auctions to have limited info. While overall the watch seems consistent in condition from the front, need more pics to assess.

William's site has a trove of past auction reviews you can also learn up on. GLWYHunt

    HI again Guys!

I have looked a lot at Williams site and also on his Youtube films, but these referens are really hard...
With the "thin" info that the auction house shows, I might have to go down there and look at the watch...:(
But that's not an option right now, I hope I will get more info, and then we will see?

My question before was actually to get more help and guidance...:)
And it also very fun to learn more!!

Looks pretty nice from what I can see. Pristine is hard to come by in these. Happy enough with mine and this one your considering is nicer.

Excellent October 1968 calendar and appropriate this week. Both Wally and Walt used the calendars on Apollo 7.

If you can’t go see the watch in person, request a condition report and extra high res pictures (ask for pics that you want to see). Many auction houses are happy to provide these on request.

The leaf sub dial hands look newer than the rest of the watch even though it's an older style. It makes you wonder what happened to the original stick hands. Also not sure I understand why they would ever need to be replaced.

I don’t know if it’s the pictures quality but the minute hand seems way too short…

Looks nice, and with auctions you sometimes need to take a chance. $26k is a not a bargain however. I wonder if it will just pass.

Thats what I also thought...maybe one of the former owners liked the leaf style?
And by the way - you haven't found the 2998-4 somewhere??

    @Dan S:
To be honest, I don't think I will do any bidding on this one, I do have to learn much more, and the starting price in way too high....
Its Januari now (poor mans month), so i also think that this one will not go, but you never know??;)

Is it just me or is that minute hand a millimeter to short? For a 2998-6 it also has the wrong sub hands (latest 2998-3), maybe newer service? And what is going on with the cronohand not having any paint? Other than that it is worth to note that the end links are repro. So, I would be vary conscious with this one.

For me this is not a 20k EUR + hammer watch.

Minute hand is definitely too short. Maybe seamaster one.
Pushers a bit too clean to be original?
Personally I love those 2998 with pumpkin lume and here I dont love it much.
And definitely opening bid is high enought to not concider to jump.
