Speedmaster 2998-5

I recently took a Omega Speedmaster 2998-5 and a Breitling AVI 765 produced in the first half of 1953. The Speedmaster is not in good shape it doesn't run, one of the push knobs is incomplete and the crown is very worn or unoriginal and comes off. I believe it is the Tropical version, not sure. I took both of these watches to a local watchmaker he threw up a red flag when he said they may be worth $600.00. I decided I didn't want him to touch the Breitling but I would leave the Speedmaster because of it's condition. Well when I went to get the Breitling he said take them both that he didn't want my business. I would like these repaired with OEM parts and by someone who won't fu%# them up. My goal is to increase there value not destroy it. Any recommendations on a serviceman?
Thank You

Then you should source only vintage parts yourself, nothing modern. Depending on where you are, a competent watchmaker can be recommended.

Do you have pictures?

Try Tanner Morehouse at TM Watch Co. in North Dakota. He's specializes in restoring vintage Omegas. I don't know if he has any experience with Breitling. No matter who you use, restoring a 2998 in poor condition is likely to be a very expensive proposition.

It's a super nice 2998-5 ! The way I love them ! It's not tropical.
Please, don't send it to Omega for service. Some members here will give you the reference of good watchmakers in the US to do the job.
It's a fantastic Speedy you have here.

And is it the box I see in the backgroud ?!?!?!

Congrats !
