Just back from service
Lovely!
Is it a new/repro bezel?
Replaced with New bezel from omega.
Kept original with base 1000 (pic attached)

You may want to give us context here and maybe a before picture, since many on here will be looking at that and thinking it is ruined with new modern hands, bezel, pushers, black rehaut etc and a heavily polished case. Perhaps that was in fact the only course of action. I'm guessing you are hoping for a positive reactions but without context who knows? I can't help but think you've turned what might have been quite charming when original into a FOIS lookalike.

Photo of watch prior to service. new hands are original from omega and period correct. As you would be aware, any new parts are generally replaced with current day spares. Very lucky to find original hands for this model from omega. It’s been a daily wear by me for the last 45 years. The fact that it looks brand new after 65years is amazing. all servicing has been done by omega and only original parts used. I have replaced and kept the base 1000 bezel.

While I am not an expert, I’ve seen a couple factory serviced/restored 2915/2998s. Those look like the modern luminova service hands I’ve seen them install on other watches. I do not believe those are original from the period.

As someone who has been looking for a set of 2998 hands for ages, I can only agree with that sentiment!!

Omega does not have "original hands from the period" available. They just install modern service hands.

I see. Many here would have left the bezel alone but I see why you swapped the hands, as the ones in place pre service were an addition from an earlier service and not correct for that model. The ones you have now are the right shape but not original, the originals had radium lume material and haven't been legal to fit for about 60 years. Yours are modern Superluminova replacements which look mostly period correct apart from the lume. They look better than a set of Pro hands though perhaps.

Make sure you keep the parts they removed safe, especially the bezel. That is worth way more than the modern one fitted now.

Thank goodness you held onto that bezel! You might want to think about having it reinstalled in the future if you value originality (your bezel is quite rare and in good condition relative to other examples). Given the hands in your original photo were also incorrect, I think you took a step in the right direction having them changed. Most members here would not send any of their watches to Omega for service as you loose control over what will be done to the watch and risk vintage components being replaced with modern equivalents. Now you know. I hope you get to enjoy your watch for many years to come.

One can always ask these guys for some hands 😀 https://fiedler.ch/contact.php

I think these guys made the alpha hands for the Speedmaster but I might be wrong

So at the time being it might be theoretically possible for the original manufacturers to produce new hands in original styles, I doubt Omega owned the designs - so could be legal/moral - but unless you're in Switzerland and manually go say hi, I doubt they will even reply

this is 2998-1 original case, back, dial face, movement not sure what you mean by “lookalike” I think I’ve basically kept this watch in pristine and as near as possible original condition. Basically I’m posting this so people can see a 65year old watch, in perfect working order, as it may of been all that time ago. Polishing the case was a personal choice.

they do. Only they choose not to release.

What you now have on your watch are modern service hands.

Would you care to elaborate?

I struggle with the bezel thing. Why would you want to wear such a watch with a totally incorrect bezel when you have an original one?

I wouldn’t say totally incorrect. The bezel is a correct replacement for this watch.
And has been for the last 40plus years.
Next service I will have the original bezel put back on
