Umm, isn't the Base 1000 bezel worth about $8K on its own? Makes the whole thing kind of a bargain I would think.
It depends how you evaluate the condition. According speedmaster101 poor ones starts at $1500-2000. I find it not fair to good but William himself wrote above it's not pleasant to look at so... 😕

@TheGreatKat
I don't know if you have seen my previous posts?
But I am looking for a birth year watch (1966).
So either a Ed White or a 105.012.😀

But not in a hurry, and still learning "the ropes"...!

Did you ever notice if you say the word “rehaut” over and over, it stops sounding like a word?
I found that I started singing that Duran Duran song...Her name is rehaut and she dances on the sand...

@TheGreatKat, so you're seriously looking? where you at the auction?

And there was one up here in Sweden a few weeks ago, but no winner! I looked at it for while and it had a few issues...

Looks (maybe) like a blue dial to me.

$ 2000 for a Base 1000 bezel? Please. I take 2 ! That is very out of line.

for context, here is the full paragraph - and don’t forget poor is terrible..

The purpose of the paragraph is to help arrive at an appropriate value for a watch missing the bezel. For example you might have to down grade a very good 2998-1 by $15,000 to get to a ballpark valuation.

If you have inferred that BASE1000 bezels are selling for $2000 then I have not expressed myself correctly!

Note On BASE 1000 bezels
The 2998-1 and -2 are often traded with DO90 bezels instead of the correct black BASE1000. The prices for 2998-1 or -2 above include a price for a commensurate bezel. These BASE1000’s are worth approximately $10,000 to $20,000 depending who you talk to. A poor one might be $1500 - 2000 while a mint one might sell for $15,000+. There is talk of them selling for more but not confirmed. Recently I have seen imitations that are close, but do not pass inspection.

And before bidding, it didn't meet the estimate....

Or: "The REHAUT is a lonely child, who's waiting by the park / the REHAUT is in charge of finding treasure in the dark..."
