Good morning everyone,
I am writing to ask for your help in evaluating a Speedmaster 145.022-69 ST serial 28.xxx.xxx with no papers and no box owned by a friend I would like to buy it from.
What do you think is the private market value of this watch today, taking into consideration that it was completely overhauled by a famous specialized laboratory in Milan in April 2022?
Thanks for the space and to everyone who will help me get the correct evaluation of the watch.

I’m sure you’ll get some valuable insights, but this forum isn’t really here to do valuations for people.

You should check out this great price chart for some general guidance: https://speedmaster101.com/price-chart-2/

Even though this has been serviced, the condition isn’t that great on this watch. The polished caseback, poor dial lume, mismatched lume on chrono sweep hand, the incorrect/badly worn bezel, and nonoriginal bracelet will have a big impact on the price (among other things).

Welcome

What is your friend asking?

How good of a friend?

If a good friend, y'all should be able to have a beer and come to a good outcome for both.

I’d go with the price chart linked above. I’d say that’s a ‘fair’ example at best.

Hello and welcome. Omegaforums is a great place to be to learn. Hopefully you'll stay awhile. You'll get a lot better response if you do a bit of research yourself, and as a bonus you'll come out a bit smarter about these watches as well!

To get you started:
- www.speedmaster101.com as mentioned above, this belongs to member on here. He has a valuations page that may help.
- I Love my Speedmaster Put in your serial number here to see what comes up for production date

As mentioned there are a couple of issues here.
- With a early serial number, I'd expect a dot-over-90 bezel, which this watch does not have. It has the later dot-next-to-90 bezel probably swapped at a service. A normal thing but a minus in terms of value.
- I don't doubt the famous shop in Milan, but I'd be concerned that the running seconds and hour totalizer subdial hands have been painted over.
- The watch has seen some use and has been polished, again, normal things but take away from value.

It does depend how much your friend is asking.

Good luck.

I hadn’t noticed the serial was 29m. @TrboDieselPwrd os right, this should have a DON bezel so the one that’s on their is incorrect

Although I know every watch has a price, I start off by deciding "do I really want this watch?", without consideration for price; after that, I get to the price consideration. To me, this '69 is just not aesthetically pleasing given: its been heavily polished, the bezel is heavily worn and possibly wrong for that serial range, dial and hands are unattractive, endlinks are wonky plus I'd prefer a 1039 bracelet on a '69... I think there are many better examples out there to choose from, so I'd be a pass on this one at any price. Sure, you can acquire it and then have the dial and hands improved, get a proper bezel/bracelet/endlinks, but by the time you do all that, you still have a soft case, and could have spent that time and energy finding a better example. I'm not considering any potential sentimental value or connection to the piece of course. Just my $0.02.

If it was free, I'd still think about passing on this particular example as it is not an attractive watch, unless you are thinking of selling it for the parts

This is what it should look like, although mine does have a.modern service crown.

Ref. 145.022-69 ST on ref. 1039/516 bracelet. Serial starts with 305.

Personally, I would pass on your example for the reasons posted above. It's just not in great shape.

Welcome to the forum,
As noticed the local crew can be a bit brutal for any given watch, but it's a genuine omega speedy, that has lived a life.

Doing your own research on the aforementioned sites, and cruising ebay completed sales can give you a $ range.

It won't ever be a pristine example, but that's not the point: Do you like it?
Are you a hard core collector or do you want a daily wear speedy?

There are countless posts of watches, worse off for wear, that people go gaga over because of the provenance, people love a story.
Was this your friend's father's gardener's mother's mechanic? Did he wear it every day for 40 years before being mauled by rabid chimps, while repairing a vintage corvette, on the side of the road, in a blizzard? Found backpacking over Donner Pass, in the stomach of bear that died under the crushing blow of an oldgrowth giant sequoia, blown over by an el niño storm? Did it incur water damage, while they sang harmony with Jerry Garcia 69' deep in the clear waters of Maui? Sing the praise of that wrist candy!

Could you pick it up cheap, have it serviced and happily wear it for another 40 years? Yup.

I'd rather have a beaten vintage with a history, than a brand new shiny one. YMMV

Good luck!

Buona fortuna!

😀😀😀😀
Thank you!
