I know I know… not another post about an auction…again….🤦

But..

This one is really weird?

The watch itself might be legit, with an extract (and a cool delivery adress) and even papers.
But its the watch that you buy!
And that the bezel is very special….maybe...

The seller has tried to sell this watch via Catawiki with no success.
The seller is in Poland, and has lots of other sales (and previous ones).

And then now on an action site called Jasper 52 in New York (via Liveauctioneers).

They had it on an auction before, but now you can just buy it!

The thing (besides the watch) is that the payment goes to the States, and the shipping is done from Polen (within EU).
How the fudge would this deal turn out with VAT, taxes, customs etc??

My point is that the watch might be interesting to buy, but the legal/finance stuff feels a bit strange?

Have any of you Guys heard of this kind of deal before? And have done buying from Jasper 52 before?

And to be clear with this - I am NOT interested in this watch!😲

I only what to highlight possible problems and maybe get some answers?
There are a lot of weird stuff going on out in the big world.

Cheers

Reserve: $37,000.00 ::facepalm1:: :whipped:

damaged dial (scratches on dial, not only on the plexi)
later replacement crown
and nobody knows if this weird bezel colour is due to natural aging or intentionally "induced"

Bezel looks bleached to me, but I haven't had much exposure with Speedy bezels.

Yepp...

One thing (among others) is that if a person new to the Speed vintage world, and maybe with a "fat wallet", you just go for this watch?
Without doing the crazy/fun homework??

The bezel has no dents on the outside edge or chipping despite the case being battered, back of lugs chewed, crystal scratched, bracelet stretched to death etc, there is absolutely no chance it spent its life on this watch.

That makes me paranoid and the fonts look sort of strange as well. I know the -64 is the ref to find the blue bezels on but the hue is usually darker and not with a strange fade like that from what I have seen in person.

I would be interested to hear someone familiar with reproductions thoughts on the bezel fonts.

Oh and the asking price is completely batshit insane regardless. Look at that dial scratch.

To emphasize it's a stay away. The shop in Poland - SC Datowatcg has two opinions on google and both are just terrible:

Bezel looks to be no good to me. It looks like a cloudy, artificial fade in that picture.

I tracked down all the blue bezels I could when I owned one and they all had a more vibrant / binary appearance. Case in point, my example (which was one of the most blue I've ever seen) was pretty much black from straight on, but vibrant blue when tilted at an angle.

That bezel looks off in several other ways (not just the color).

Yeppers…just a bit of a tilt and the blue starts to come alive. Pics of my 105.003-64 from a few minutes ago…

LATE ENTRY: Here’s another example of that tilt action while in the pointy end at around 35,000 feet…same watch as pictured above…my 105.003-64 [on a Rothco protective band with the protective flap retracted]…
