The Numanoids also had an impact on me back in the day. He deserves a mention for having a tough musical journey and being hugely influential. A toast to him and all friends electric and the replicants that followed.
The song had no official video, which is also a sign it was all about the music then, A lot has changed with MTV etc.

I was 11 when I bought my first single with my own saved money, and that was it:

At that time, 1983, in Italy hardly anyone knew them, but they would become the soundtrack of my adolescence. So sad about Andy Fletcher's death 🙁

Glad to see this one mentioned, another pivotal song for me and 100% a true soundtrack tune of that time. If I see a documentary about life during the 80's that song is already in my head. My favourite DM record.

Went to Washington DC in the summer of 1963 when I was six years old to see an aunt and uncle and three daughters, the eldest being three weeks older than I am. I remember riding in third seat of our '59 Plymouth stationwagon facing backwards as we took in the sights and two of us singing this tune endlessly at the top of our lungs. Must have driven our parents crazy. My cousin yet remembers that.

Did u get to interact with them at all. I recently saw Al Jardine play and the dude just appeared so humble and happy to be playing for people and thanked the crowd numerous times for coming to see him, As soon as he did Sloop John B my night was complete he just struck me as a very grateful guy who just loves music. Mind you that was my perspective 25 rows back. Really wish I saw him and Brian perform Sloop.
I definitely wish I was older when I met The Beach Boys. I was 8 years old, but, I remember all of them coming by and saying hello to the team before they preformed. I think their manager’s or somebody involved with the band son was on our team. They were young guys who seemed to be like anyone else except they played music… at the time, I wasn’t a big music fan nor did I really know who they were. I became a big fan soon afterwards and saw them in concert a few times over the years.

In Elementary School I was first struck by Huey Lewis and the News, I had recorded several songs from the radio. This was one of them:

Much of my teen years, Grunge was my main interest. Soundgarden was probably my favorite. I attended this concert in 1992 and can be seen crowd surfing in the lower left portion of the video 5:28 - 5:33. It is probably also me again around 6:28 in the center of screen, although it is less clear.

Anyone else hearing Ghost Busters ……maybe Huey Lewis influenced them…

It is nice when Groups from your Youth can still knock it out of the park in 2013…

I know how I survived the 80's, but how these guys did beats the living hell out of me.

I went to see the stones. I was so much older then I’m younger than that now, these guys opened, they literally blew me away. I saw them a couple times after that and they were kinda hit and miss but it was perfection the night they opened for the stones.

A last couple from me. The The / Matt Johnson are still influential. The Jools Holland piano outro on this track is amazing.
Not having much spare cash we used to get into clubs early for cheap entry and cheap drinks. One in particular used Steve Arrington feel so real as a warm up song. It evokes a lot of memories.

Surprised, this hasn't come up yet. Best music video ever made IMO
