Something feels wrong with my latest purchase

Hey guys, bought this watch (SMP midsize Quartz) about a week ago. Since then I’ve noticed, that some things are off. First of all the braclet and bracket clasp look not typical for this model. Caseback wave pattern is also not like other watches online. HEV is also not branded. Am I too careful or am I right and send it back to the seller?
Thanks for the help.

What is it you are seeing about the bracelet and clasp? The first of these had plain He valves so that in itself isn’t a red flag on an early one, and the lume and serial show that this is early, like circa 1993-4. I see nothing amiss based on those pics.

Oh, if the second hand hits all the dial marks it’s probably fake since usually they don’t! That’s just a joke btw.

It's certainly an early one as mentioned, it also has the serifs to the dial text, so the unsigned HEV would presumably be legit. I think I see what the OP is talking about with the clasp, there's usually a lip on both ends of the clasp rather than the straight edge on this one. I don't recall seeing one without them like the OPs but it could be another early iteration thing. The caseback from first glance possibly has the waves reach further to edge on OPs, leaving less space around it, hard to tell for sure.

OP: I would say it's more likely yours is an early example and some design changes were made as the model was revised. There aren't all that many of the first versions untouched out there so the vast majority of photos will be of the revised versions that came afterwards.

[Edit - a quick google image search has turned up another example of the 'non-lip' clasp, and there's also a previous thread on OF discussing https://omegaforums.net/threads/omega-smp-2531-80-identification-for-1120-movement.94588/ early versions of the full size auto that shows the same clasp style as OPs]

Yeah the second hand misses the markers, which doesn’t alarm me. Yes I am talking about the straight edge of the clasp and the missing lips that go into the bracelet. Thanks for the fast replies. I will go to the lokal Omega Boutique and have them change the battery and confirm originality of the watch.

Your watch is very much original it would appear, more so than many other early examples that would have by now had various cosmetic parts/bracelet changed.

Good point about the clasp, I’ve not seen that before either now you mention it. Maybe a close up of the stamps on it might shed some light on it. There are fake bracelets and bracelet parts out there it’s true. The back looks ok to me, the wave section is proportionally wider on the mid size vs the 2531 and the quartz and auto models in a given size use backs with different profiles so that might explain it.

The easiest way for me to immediately find a fake is the location of the He valve. Fakes of this model usually have the valve at 10:00 or slightly below. Omega put it up slightly higher as yours has.

I am glad that its the real deal.

What's the deal with the misaligned and welded joins on the caseback waves? That looks like poor workmanship to me.

Thank you for helping me seeing it correctly. That is some serious wear.
