Wow, that is a great article you researched/ wrote! It seems to be a lot harder to find one for sale this past year or two; I imagine they are embedded in collections and will remain so for the foreseeable future. I still hope to land one at some point.

Wish I could help but I promised my son that when I was on my death bed, I would sell it to him.

Hello, I have written an article on soccer timers for my website. I would appreciate any feedback/corrections, thank you!

This is a really, really good article - nicely done! I love the tie in to identifying touch-ups on the bezels and the (thankfully light) market for fraud. I wish that article existed when I was shopping for my soccer timer a few years ago, it would have been a great resource.

How would you peg the current market value for a 145.019? I'm considering testing the market for mine - it's the grey rotating bezel version of the watch, but I found both a roulette bezel and regatta bezel over the years from other collectors (I currently have the roulette bezel on it because I like the pilot look, but I'm wondering if the regatta might look sharper...).

For your reference as another data point, the bracelet with mine is a 1116, though I've just kept that in storage in lieu of a nice leather strap.

Thank you for the comments. I don't give valuations, I suggest checking ebay sold listings and watchrecon for reasonable sales prices or chrono24 for what dealers are asking. Thanks

Hey James, I鈥檓 currently in the market for soccer timers and think I鈥檝e found a pretty good one (145016). Everyone鈥檚 praising your article on soccer timers but all I get is a 404 error sheen hitting the link. I also don鈥檛 find it on the site鈥檚 search bar anymore. Is it available for reading anywhere else?

PS does anyone know If all soccer timers (.016) came with the orange hands, and on a steel bracelet? I鈥檓 assuming white hour and minute hands where replacement parts at service?

Cheers

Hi, thanks for pointing this out. I am no longer associated with BTD and my content has been moved to my personal blog, the Lost Spring Bar (thelostspringbar.com). My instagram has also changed to @the_lost_spring_bar. This article is filed under "Collecting" and here's the link:

https://thelostspringbar.com/2021/1...-to-know-about-omega-seamaster-soccer-timers/

As for your questions, for the 145.016 the hand color varies with the dial, for a white dial the minute and hour hands are black with lume and the seconds totalizer hand is orange, and for the gray dial the hour and minute hands are orange with lume and the seconds totalizer hand is white. I attached my summary of the dial variations that I was able to discover.

I believe the bracelet was an optional upgrade. The 1116 with 548 end links is the most common, and sometimes it is found with 1171 with straight 175 end links as in Dsio's example from his fine article some years ago.

A picture of the watch you are considering would be helpful for us to provide feedback.

It's a shame, a great article that needs to be shared. Glad it's being sorted.
It's also a tribute to the wonderful job that OF does here to preserve our archives. One of the reasons they are sticklers on retaining photos and listings.....preserving the history.
My .020 says "Cheers!"

Likewise, that's what I get.

Morning all, pictures attached.
James, thanks so much for the article and your reply. This really deepens my research, as you know there's, compared to other watches, not that much to be found online, especially no "authenticated" or verified knowledge by Omega.
Please see the pictures below. The seller is an established vintage seller, who gives a warranty and all. However, I am still slightly worried that this has a few service parts/ or simply swapped out parts - especially hands, as the condition looks almost to good to be true. Watch comes with no box and papers, so I am planning on purchasing and then getting the "extract from the archives" service from Omega to verify the basics.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

The hour and minute hands, as you noticed, are entirely white. I've looked at many examples of gray dials across the 3 soccer timer references and they consistently have orange hands on the distal 2/3 and black on the proximal 1/3. This handset is not correct for the white dial version either since those have black on the distal 2/3 and white on the proximal 1/3. I think that, looking closely at the photo, the hands have signs of a non-OEM paint job in that certain areas look irregular (see photo). Also, the lume has deteriorated and the movement looks a little dirty (see photos). There was one sold by Sotheby's some time ago that had a whitish handset but it's not this one, probably that one was underexposed in the photo and had very faded orange hands and a white seconds totalizer that was painted gray for some reason and was also on a bracelet (see photo). Given the condition of the dial and movement, the pristine brushing on the front of the case without any scratches or smoothing probably represents a lapped case. For me personally, I wouldn't say don't buy it, but keep these issues in mind when you consider the price, and whether you would be satisfied with this example.

My personal opinion is that I like the lapped case (seems to be done well), dial is ok even with lume loss, I'm a little concerned about the movement (tritium lume got loose at some point on the dial and the movement itself looks a little dirty) so I would price in the cost of an 861 service no matter what the seller claims. But before buying this I would inquire as to how easy (or not) it is to get the correct handset from your local friendly Omega certified watchmaker because it's rather noticeable and price that into the cost.

Thanks for sharing this article. I just bought a 145.019 from a Swiss dealer. My first Omega. Seems like everything fits the bill, the only thing missing is the bracelet. Its on what appears to be an old Omega leather bracelet, you can't see the signed clasp in this picture. I don't mind though, I like the leather and I'm not diving with it anytime soon. Doesn't appear to be a re-dial, thankfully. I would have looked out for that had I known. Could have been re-lumed at some point, but its not lighting up at all, appears to be tritium and the lume in the hands matches. Very few battle scars, the case and brushed edges vs. polished edges are very sharp. I tried to zoom in better but its just an iPhone photo. Oh and the box is obviously new, he just gave me that, probably better to ship with to the States. Let me know what you think, I'll try to take a better pic if anybody is interested.

Congrats!

Thanks! Its a great watch, keeps fantastic time and the dial is beautiful. I actually prefer it to the roulette wheel, just for everyday wear its a little less noisy with the diver bezel. Never seen or had a watch with a bezel that is turned by a crown sitting under the crystal and over the dial.
