So, who is "going" to the Watches of Knightsbridge Sale today?

I couldn't see another thread on it - we are all stuck at home so I am going to watch the Auction online - at 1300 GMT

https://auctions.watchesofknightsbridge.com/auctions/7395/srwatc10047

I normally like to go to these auctions to see the bidders, and hear the snippets of conversations, and get a feel how many bidders are after each lot.

I wonder if we can have running comments here, as we all sit around isolated?

Real time shock/surprise at prices?

Here is the link to the page, I hope we dont need to all be registered to view -

Maybe no one else interested, but I shall be watching, and commenting here.

You dont need to buy anything, just entertainment.

Hi @Spacefruit

Certainly planning to have a look. Even though I have no vested interest in any of the watches at auction, I am still curious.

Personally, I do wonder whether anyone would bid on for instance the 2998-61 offered. It looks great, but that’s based on only three images... Quite surprising as other watches with lower estimates are depicted much more extensively.

Anyway, almost showtime...

@Spacefruit

They notified everyone via an e-mail that there will be no in person bidding for this auction and that there will also be no in person collection of won items either. They will either hold the items until the lock down is over or will arrange delivery.

I’m thinking of watching some of it. There’s a couple of pieces I like/want but probably won’t bid

I will be watching as frankly, we are on lock down.

The watches are better than usual, in my opinion. BUT i wonder how this will play out.

I may be a chance for a bargain, or maybe two crazy isolated collectors might battle for something, or maybe we will all sit and watch - and nothing will sell.

Its worth looking

Will be joining too. Sadly had this on my highlights of things to do today 😕
It was either that or plant some seeds in the garden.

Keen to see if prices will be holding at close to/or better than estimates.

I see a few other auction sites (lesser known) have postponed their auctions for a few months.
So pleased to see this one going ahead

@Spacefruit

I will tune in for some of it.

Generally their reserves mean there are rarely true bargains, unlike the reserves of local generalist bricks and mortar auction houses that can also be accessed online.

PS
What were your thoughts (actual watch and price achieved) on the tropical 2998-1 that sold at Antiquorum?

Thanks
Bill

With most likely at least 50% of all watch collectors now under lockdown without anything interesting to do than look at watches and auctions, i still think there will be as @Spacefruit mentioned a minimum of two collectors bidding on the same items thus pushing prices up. For now... 😉

On some items. ....😉

I can tell you I have my eye on some of them.....

I have to say even to my uneducated eye the Rolexes look better than average? Or am I wrong? (I’m not a Rolex buyer, obvio)

I'll probably have a nosey just out of curiosity though. A couple of nice looking watches however I am surprised at how many ladies watches there are, is that normal?

I don’t see exceptional Omega values unless they hammer at the low end of the estimate

A lot of the watches feel ‘pedestrian’

A significant number look ‘prepared’

In the current market…some of the estimates are fantasy

They just confirmed that it's a pure on line auction. Not a physical one with camera and mics. So in this instance there will not be any audio or video coming our way. Shame.
