This, I always try to avoid shipping on Thursdays or Fridays. Really awful mate, hope you'll get compensated properly on it!

Same here - even if it's a 2-day service I won't ship past Wednesday - don't even want a chance of the watch sitting somewhere over a weekend if I can avoid it.

As for why your own loss rate is lower, it lines up better with my non-watch shipments. I would presume that bespoke electronics are less prone to theft than Rolex and Omega?
Just to address that, if I am your average package handler looking to supplement my income then cash, jewellery, watches and smalls are what I would want. If I can slip a ring on my finger, a watch on my wrist or cash into my wallet, I'm going to be able to walk out easily, without suspicion and fence my ill-gotten gains at the first pub I come to. If I steal a $3000 ECU for a Scania 500 suspension system ... I've got to find someone with a Scania 500 that's got a suspension problem. I also dare say that these electronics are more easily traceable than a watch - the serial numbers are on the outside for a start.

Now, going to your reply in its entirety, your samples are probably small in the grand scheme of things but also undoubtedly representative.

This has made me seriously consider investigating additional insurance and I have just made a call to a broker and a specialist GIT insurer. Would members here be interested in buying into a group policy if one was available?

I don't event want a chance of the watch sitting somewhere overnight. If I can avoid it, I don't drop off packages past the day's cutoff.

Back about 25 years ago, I knew someone who would every once in a while have a new Rolex........I initially thought he was born into money. Then one day, he revealed to me he had an uncle who worked as a customs officer and had some job perks.

😡How can people justify to do that?😡

Lots of countries are still that way.... soaking in corruption. There's a reason why some eBay /watch sellers don't ship certain countries.

So, for domestic shipments, are we better off putting a misleading label on the outside so that a dishonest postal clerk thinks it's a replacement frobinator for a RUR 9000 that would be hard to fence, instead of a watch? Obviously for international shipments, true customs declarations are required.

My personal opinion on shipping stealth and safety
from observing how Pro's sent to me.
FedEx Express before 10am service.
Using the standard Documents box business people use for documents
FedEx® Medium Box (M1: rectangular and shallow in shape) Inside dimensions: 11-1/2" x 2-3/8" x 13-1/4"
With another Small Fedex box inside. Watch rolled in bubble wrap and inner and
outer boxes stuffed with bubble wrap so No rattling and protected.
I'm sure they use Parcel Pro accounts also for protection.
So, the package is tracked at every movement and the box
looks and acts like ASAP documents.

I sent a watch (Speedy) down to the mail room in my office with isntuctions to send it insured and tracked abroad.

Asked them for the tracking details the next day only to be told they had just sent it standard air mail. No tracking. No insurance. 😵‍💫 😲

It was a nervous few days waiting for the buyer to confirm it had been received. 😀
