38 super, IMHO, is just about perfect for a 1911. 45 is a touch heavy, 9mm a touch light. 10mm is right out.
What...A 1911 .45 is too heavy and 10mm is just right or are you saying that the 10mm is out?

Wryfox means that 10mm is unacceptable in some way when chambered in the 1911-gun, which is patently false as everybody who is anybody knows.

Heh!

Forum debate. Ain't it a grand thing?

A bit tongue in cheek is all. No harm, no foul.

Have 1911s in 22, 38 super, 38spl, 9mm, 40, 10mm, 45 & 45 Super.

But I really do think 38 super is ideal in 1911. Major factor power with low recoil. That's why it's so good for competition. Have several supers. All great shooters.

Oh man! Ya' didn't rise to the bait.

I agree though. I think the .38 Super is pretty super as far as handgun cartridges go. Offers some real performance capabilities.

I want one.

@Wryfox

The only thing worse than to state the 10mm is out, is to share that you have several 1911 while denying us a proper pic.

One of the other advantages to 38 super in 1911 is the smaller bore and corresponding heavier barrel weight that helps temper muzzle rise and recoil. Soft, straight shooter at 1300fps. Zippy.

It's basically a 9mm magnum.

Except that you can buy 9mm with similar velocities in a Glock 19 from DoubleTap Ammo, Underwood Ammo and Buffalo Bore (Maybe Corbon too, now that it’s been resurrected by Mike Shovel).

I know some poo poo Taurus but this is an outstanding pistol, a 1911 style. All stainless, shoots perfect.

This custom commander will be arriving on the 21st, but then I have to do the mandatory 10 business day WA wait.

Almost naked slide and no finger crescents, ring hammer, old school lines aside from slanted serrations and the extended beaver tail. I’m going to put some creamy ivory grips on it. Let the traditional blue get some honest holster wear. I can’t wait for this one.

1930s built Italian 6.35 (25auto)

Galesi?
My brother had one exactly like that except nickle or chrome plated.
I think they made these at least into the 60's.

OMG, when I get home I am gonna dig out the 25auto out of the safe.

Not as fancy as this, but a 25auto.

This is a no politics thread.
I agree with you. Having hundreds of dead and thousands of wounded Americans lying in the street should not be political. It should just have an end put to it.

I love my Colt Commander. I slapped on some Pachmeyer rubber grips, sacrificing aesthetics for utility though. I'm a Glock guy now but I cut my teeth on M1911's. Age 8, in the backyard with Dad, putting .45 rounds downrange. Now THAT was a childhood! 😀

Very lucky ras. My dad was always working. Occasionally he would take me to shoot 38s out of his Python. Grandad would always take me out in the weekends, he was a revolver guy too. I didn’t get into semi autos until I joined the service.

Your pistol looks very nice with the wood grips. I would leave her as is and spend the grip money on ammo
