Difficult to tell from wrist shots as watches look so much bigger than they are in reality. For example:

vs.

The main question is not about the size of your wrist but the shape of it. For example, my wrist is only 6.25" but it's pretty flat so it's about 56mm from side to side and bigger watches look fine. Other people with the same sized wrist may find a watch with 50mm lug to lug overhanging.

The DSOM is only 2mm bigger in terms of lug to lug than the Speedy Pro. It's thicker but it's on a strap which makes it wear smaller than the Speedy Bracelet. If you're comfortable with a Speedy on the modern bracelet, you'll probably not have an issue with DSOM, IMO.

Someone on another forum posted the two on his 6.5" wrist BTW. Really not that much difference:

This is the only 44.25mm speedy that looks good on a small wrist. I've tried them all, multiple times. This one wears so much thinner and closer to the wrist compared to all other coaxial automatic speedmasters. The black case certainly makes it appear smaller than it really is. Overall, it is a stunner. I really like the concept and the execution.

Now, I don’t think I would buy one of these with out looking at it and inspected on the flesh. A buddy of mine chipped his DSOTM after a night out partying. He took it to the Boutique and they told him that a new case would cost 6k.

That's what insurance is for 😉. I insured my BSotM ceramic for a bit over £100 a year on the full RRP at the time (not what I paid) on a watch specific policy with no premiums payable on claim. Well worth it IMO for the piece of mind. I would get it for a steel watch as well since I've put deep scratches into the titanium bracelet of my X-33 before while being too drunk and falling on stone.

I didn't cover it for accidental loss though, which would've added more to the price but I've never accidentally lost a watch in my life. The policy gets relatively cheaper the more watches you add. My De Ville Chronoscope was something like £55-60 by itself but under £40, maybe £30-35 if added to the same policy.

Peanuts really and it allows me to wear and enjoy my favourite watches without concern.

I had one of these. Awesome, unique watch. I have about a 6 1/4" wrist, pictured. The watch wears small for a 44, but it's still 44 and to my eyes it looked a bit large on me. I also had trouble telling what time it is (a common issue for me) and so with two strikes against it, I sold it.

I wouldn't mind having kept it just because it's so neat, but that's a lot of money to tie up doing nothing.

My insurance covers me against theft, but not for being falling-down drunk! 😲

Actually, all watches tie up money that could be productively used elsewhere. Very few people really need a watch these days....they are just toys.

I could have written that better. What I meant was tying up money in a watch that I never wear.

Hi all,
I to was slightly concerned about if the worst was to happen and if I somehow managed to chip or crack the ceramic case on my Apollo 8 which is why prior to purchase I spoke to my home insures here in the UK who are Legal and General. I got it added to to my home insurance policy to cover for accidental damage and any loss either in or out of the home for the sum of £80 per year. Which I feel is worth every penny and money well spent just for the piece of mind it gives as opposed to the worry of a £6K cost for a replacement case. The Apollo 8 is the first chrono that has managed to stay in my small collection as usually with chrono's I have loved the look of them but then moved then on quite fast and the Apollo 8 has now been with me coming on for a year and whats a post with out some gratuitous pictures so here they are.

That's a good point on the insurers. I too am in the UK, and the cost to add my Apollo 8 and X-33 to the policy was pitifully small (and much smaller than separate so called specialist watch insurance that offered less). Absolute no brainer. I'm with Aviva.

I confirm. 6.25" too and 48-49mm is my upper limit... 56mm would be madness on my wrist!

My wrists are roughly 6.5" and I used to wear a 45mm U Boat daily, still have my 44mm Panerai which I wear 2 days a week, but my daily now is 39mm BB58.

I tried one on near Christmas at my local boutique, (the sales person swore it was 42mm) I think it wore smaller than my Panerai but its the illusion of black watches which wear smaller. Lovely on wrist, a bit of struggle to use it for its function, but colours work to a tee! I'd still be scared of breaking it being ceramic though.

I think it's because the DSOTM was tight and the SMP is loose. It's definitely smaller.

Anyone with both the Apollo 8 and a DSOTM or Speedmaster Racing they can comment on/compare how the case wears?

I think the fear of damaging the ceramic case is way overblown. Unless you ram it into a metal door frame at Mach 1, at just the right angle, you aren't likely to damage a ceramic case in normal use. It didn't even enter my mind when I bought the Apollo 8 and I don't worry about it when I'm wearing it.

Maybe not Mach 1, but I have smacked my DSOTM into a metal door handle three times, and every time the door handle came off worse (metal streaks on the case of my DSOTM that I was able to scrub off). The watch still looks brand new. BTW, all three times was the same door handle ::facepalm1::

Wrap that door handle in foam or bubble wrap, problem solved.
