While searching for high-resolution photos for a watch design course, where I've been teaching for many years, I examined several modern models. In my research, I focused on the Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8, which I admit I've never looked at so closely. Today, I'm sharing a few details that others like me might not have noticed. The workmanship, the paintwork, and the tiny miniatures spark a fascination in me that I hadn't felt until yesterday. I wonder if I'll want to try this timepiece art on myself?

These are great photos - good choice. Apollo 8 is the one modern Speedy I might one day consider dropping the inevitable loads of cash to obtain. It's a piece of true originality, virtuosity, and imagination. Although, I know, some regard the little Saturn V as a bit cheesy, the sight of the (news to me) tiny "USA" lettering on its tail almost melted the padlocks on my wallet there and then. But as you said, there is so much else to enjoy besides.

Amazing details (and shots!) Thanks for posting. it seems the hands get lost against the dial; at a quick glance the actual time isn’t as legible as I might like. Maybe it looks different in person.

The first edition of the Apollo 8, when it was less than $10k, is a very interesting watch, but since they have now jacked the price up to over $16k (+65%) it isn't as compelling in my eyes. That's a lot of extra coin for a more accurate movement, and not much else. Great photos.

Great pics! Remember trying this on at the local OB and thinking it was cool, but the larger size and price was a No Go for Launch on my wrist.

Congratulations on these excellent photos.
Omega sure knows how they want to present their products in the best way possible, their photographer is likely not cheap.

I'd like to point out that I selected the photos online to try to highlight the details. I didn't take them, but I'm curious to see how they're produced and whether the pieces have the exact same surface decoration.

I'd like to point out that I selected the photos online to try to highlight the details. I didn't take them, but I'm curious to see how they're produced and whether the pieces have the exact same surface decoration.
I own this watch and can confirm the beauty is exactly as photographed. I actually bought a jewelers loupe so I can enjoy the details!

44mm case looks odd comparing to the 42 one. Subdials are too close to the center of that case.
