Well, having found a nice home for the 36mm skindiver I bought at an estate sale a couple weeks ago, I’ve now received what is ominously likely to be the first of many skindivers going forward. I overpaid for this a bit but I really like it! And at 38mm with a slim bezel it wears very nicely. Stay tuned for the weekend though...
Well I'm pleased to report that my Jubilee seems to be in working order after all. Obviously the movement is dry and needs cleaning/service, but I didn't have much choice but let it run once it started since the spring seemed to be fully wound. While I didn't set the time to the second (non hacking movement) it has kept time perfectly for 18 hours so far. No idea why it was bound up originally but I'm happy that it isn't actually broken, and it seems to have some power reserve too.
Happened to my no-name too. When I bought it the spring was fully wound, and would only run if you applied some pressure to the crown. I demagnetized it a couple times and that seemed to clear up whatever was holding it back.
These Wyler watches have a great back story including being thrown off tall buildings. Got the Heavy Duty 660 on today. Read more here https://chronopedia.club/Wyler
And now my Wyler hunt has just gotten harder- thanks guys. I just posted a WTB yesterday as I wanted to pick a few up.
Yeah, strangely it showed up on eBay not long after last week's conversation, and I threw a low bid at it and won! It's definitely in need of some cleaning I think (very stiff bezel, though no gunk underneath it) but in the 18 hours or so since unboxing it, it's kept really good time. A very cool vintage watch indeed, even if it doesn't have the cool "paintless wonder" patina yours does.
Nicely done. Even though you can’t see the gunk under the bezel-it’s there. They may also have possibly but a dab of grease under the spring ring to help it glide which can turn to tar. As I usually don’t trust the waterproof qualities of these watches, I have used denatured alcohol or naptha and a toothbrush to clean under/around bezels and the crap that comes out is shocking.
Well no, I popped the bezel off and it's actually remarkably clean. I think maybe the spring or whatever is keeping the friction tight. Might add a dab or two of Molycote and see what happens.
don't really have many vintage skin divers except for this one but I doubt I will be getting it wet any time soon
Added a little color to the skin diver collection recently. Neither run ( ) which is why I’m selling one or two that do. First was this Lucerne which looks great, esp with the roulette date: Its “lifetime mainspring” made it 50-60 years. And the other one, well, my blue Cronel has done the unthinkable - it multiplied!!! Same 40mm case as the blue, but with a slightly more versatile color scheme.
Uh oh, my favorite category. Did someone say Tropic straps? Had a few NOS ones not too long ago, kept one for myself: How about a full set Timex Skin Diver?! Titus Calypsomatics, Sharing the case with the Monvis from @rootbeer7 And a custom Albino one I've put together The skindiver version of the Croton Depthmaster: Waltham Electronic with a Lip R148 inside A classic Enicar Diver A Funky as hell Belforte: And finally, a Caravelle Sea hunter with the "Tudor" dial. If someone has an insert, pleases let me know!!!
