AH! Thats what they meant by 'the top is...'. Even so, a solid-gold bezel would be non-original, right? So probably not a good thing.
I don't know because I'm really not a gold-capped watch guy. But some people have indicated that bezels of gold-capped watches are sometimes solid 14k gold. It would be interesting to know for sure.

It typically depends whether the bezel is removable, the watches with removable bezels are going to be 14K solid.

The reason is that the bezels are only 1-2mm thick and given the capping is quite thick at around 0.2mm, there wouldn’t be much base metal under it anyway and the exposed back would potentially be visible. So it’s more work and labor for a minimal saving in actual gold.

The exception tends to be non-removable bezels, so references like the 166.067 in gold-cap do not have a solid gold bezel, it’s just all gold capped.

Here is another pic

that’s all I was sent. I will pick up tomorrow. I looked up values. It’s below what they are selling for

As @dsio says, the lugs look polished but on the other hand the broad-styled bezel appears to have survived reasonably well.

The watch has a really nice dial and I’m sure it will look great on the wrist.

You will notice the dial has pale lume but no Ts - this is because it is a early .004 and it sits in that short period when Omega was using Tritium lume but hadn’t yet started putting Ts on the dial.
(The hands may have been relumed - but then again lume on Constellation hands is often paler than the indices)

I mean, it very clearly IS plated/filled/etc. IN that the case is not solid gold.

I don’t wish to appear to be busting your balls @ErichKeane -and I’m sure you are just trying to be helpful - but if you don’t actually know something it would be better not to comment rather than giving misleading information.

(And ameliorating strong comments with clarifications or questions doesn’t help - as the statement has still been made.)

For clarity:
Constellations were the top of the line offering by Omega.

All gold 50s/60s Constellations that are not solid gold are 14k gold capped, not filled or plated, which is a far superior finish to filled or plated.

The bezels on these gold capped watches are solid 14k gold (as per @dsio ‘s explanation above. )

EH? First, I was completely right on the 1st post (stated nothing incorrect). The second I was clear that I was unsure. I don't know why you have to be a jerk about it, we're all trying to participate here. Im doing my best to learn on these posts too, plus pass on what I've gleaned from others. Yes, I'm inaccurate sometimes, but I also help folks out a vast majority of the time. If @dsio would rather I not post, I'm perfectly fine finding some other forum to hang out on.

Well, first of all I didn’t, and wouldn’t, suggest that you shouldn’t post - and I did note that you were likely just trying to be helpful.

However, accuracy and correct information is all important.

Trying to be helpful is great but jumping in (strongly) with incorrect info isn’t so much.

We’ve all started somewhere - learning from threads here on OF.
If you don’t know something, be confident enough to simply ask the question - this will start a conversation - don’t make incorrect statements followed by a question, as it just confuses the folks looking for information.
(And importantly stays on the net ad infinitum)

Peemacgee is one hundred percent on this.

There is nothing wrong with a gold capped Constellation and they are quite durable. Here’s an example that I own:

I consider the price too high for a dress watch , it's too over the top for me in this condition of the case. gold bezel or not....
