Hi OF community!

I recently picked up a Seamaster "Watchco" style build and have an itch for a slightly more vintage piece. I came across this one that looks like it could be legit. I'm trying to determine if it is all correct.

Here is the description from the listing:

鈥淓xcellent condition running as it should and keeping time, gasket has deteriorated and end piece slipped down and must be brought up by the slight dent you can see in the bracelet. Has minor surface scratches on crystal. This has been a well taken care of watch. Look at all pictures and decide for yourself if it's for you. Any questions, please ask me. Selling as shown per description. This is a good watch and hasn't been messed with.
1968 Omega Seamaster 300 166.024 SC Bracelet 1039/516 Caliber 563 SERIAL#2798XXX. Excellent condition for it's age, running as it should and keeping time, gasket has deteriorated and end piece slipped down and must be brought up by the dent you can see in the bracelet. Has minor surface scratches on crystal. This has been a well taken care of watch. Look at all pictures and decide for yourself if it's for you. Any questions, please ask me. That lume looks very green, but I know that there are variations...

You forgot the most important part, btw. Without it we can't really help you 馃榾

All those pictures and not a single good one of the dial?!

As @ConElPueblo says, price is critical. Most Seamasters are worth buying at the right price.

Edit: I take that back. There are countless Seamasters I wouldn鈥檛 have for a tenner due to condition issues and redials but most have a price

He has this listed for 8500, but might let it go closer to 5000 - no good pics of the dial...

So, are you comfortable sending a stranger between $5-9k without any idea on a most important part of this model?

you may get lucky

I鈥檇 want good hi Rez up close pix of the dial.

Totally aside from questions about originality, the mismatched lume on hands and dial isn't appealing to me personally. Sometimes we can get so deep into questions about whether a watch is legit that we forget to ask whether we like it. If I'm paying real money for a watch, I really want to love it.

^^^ I don鈥檛 care how rare or special a piece is, if I don鈥檛 immediately look at it and love it- it won鈥檛 get any wear- and then it鈥檚 just wasted money at that point.

Crown looks pretty mangled as well. Definitely would need a lot of tlc but movement looks pretty clean. Would for sure not pay the asking price.

Yeah, update: I asked him for dial pics, but I ultimately will lean toward a watchco style.

This watch does not smile to me and personally I would keep looking...

Something odd is going on with that endlink. I echo the other comments re the bad dial photo. Sometimes it's not good to gamble, this might be one of those times.

In my limited research I believe the sm300 had silver date wheels originally. It's the later watchco builds that have black date wheels.

That's not to say it couldn't be a a replacement, but if that's been swapped what else could have??

Did he say that or were you hoping for that? That鈥檚 a pretty hefty deduction. I may need to reconsider my best offers 馃榿

not a fan...the mismatched and green lume looks bad. But beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. If you are going to spend 5 grand on a dirty old watch, you better like it 馃榾
My suggestion is patience...patience will reward you.
