- no “waterproof” text on case back
- just your general opinion....!!

€1000

The dial text appears to be original to me. I believe the crown is incorrect. The case should be screw in caseback but cannot assess if its correct as you have not provided us with any pictures.

Thanks for your input!

I have made an appointment with a watchmaker to help me check before the deposit account releases the money to the seller so hopefully he can help me verify these things.

it really feels like a jungle to me. So appreciate your answers thanks!

Can you assess it from this photo? 😀

This is my gold capped 14704, also with a cal 591 movement, which I post for comparison purposes. I think I recall that it’s a 1959/1960 serial.

Compared to the one you’ve posted I suspect that your crown has been replaced. I believe mine is original.

You’ll also notice that the hands are different. Mine are Alpha Lance hands, which I’d expect to see on this model, whilst yours are Dauphine. I’m sure both were used and are on various Seamasters of the time. The fact that the hands are clearly ‘original' doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re original to this watch.

I also wonder about your dial. I’ve no reason to suppose it’s been redialled but your seller merely says 'in great condition' rather that ‘original' and you clearly have suspicions based on the shadows around the logo.

If it is original, I think the dial photos may have been edited and lightened.

Finally, although these are lovely watches, they are a 1950s design and wear marginally smaller that some of the earlier 50s models (eg 2757) or mid 60s models (eg 166.010 or 165.002) which is fine if your fiancé has skinny wrists like me but might otherwise be a problem.

I agree with @Syzygy about the price.

Finally, does the seller accept returns? If your fiancé doesn’t like it, then you may not want to pursue it.

Good luck - it’s a lovely idea for a present and well done for finding OF and asking before you buy.

Thanks a million! This is super helpful!! 😀

I asked the seller to clarify the things you brought up.

Regarding returns, the money is held in a deposit account for 7 days and during that time I have booked an appointment with a watch maker who will help me verify its condition. Seller has said that if the watchmaker does not agree with the caliber and model then I am allowed to send it back for refund within the 7 days.

I think the thing is that neither me or my fiancee are knowledgeable within vintage watches. However, I am a lover for all things vintage and think it makes for a romantic gift rather than going and buying a new “budget” watch. With that said, it being my/his first vintage watch experience I think I am not doing it foremost for the best value, rather for it being good looking - and therefore a redial for a fresh look might not be the end of the world to make him really like the watch. I understand you must think that’s stupid logic and that I seem like a tourist in this world hehe.

Still, I don’t want to be stupid and buy something that a watch expert with just a quick glance can see is non-authentic.. So I don’t know

Maybe I am wasting my money?

For Euro 1000 you should be able to find Two watches ..... Absolutely overpriced.

Thanks for your inputs everyone! Your remarks on the wrong crown made the seller decrease the price with 100

No major issues are jumping out at me, but, like the OP, I am wondering what is going on around the applied Omega logo. Perhaps it is an artifact of the photo, but it really looks like some sort of foreign substance.

Overpriced. How much time do you have to purchase something? You’re much more likely to find something in the private watch sales forum here that is both fully original and fairly priced, but it may take some time.

3 weeks, already been looking for a month so I feel a bit fed up with it tbh, But you learn something every time you look options up so it also makes me want to be more and more picky. But at the end of the day it is just suppose to be a cute gift that looks good on the wrist. The most important thing is that he will like it. (My fiancee who is getting it) second, that he shouldn’t make a fool out of himself wearing it ^^

How about this? For sale right now in the private watch sales forum right here on OF. The caliber 269 is a manual wind movement, not an automatic, but it is a very reliable, high quality movement that is inexpensive to service.
