Servicing Bubbleback

Hi all, a friend has asked for my help.
His father gave him a 5050 dating from 48/49 for his 21st birthday, and he would like to get it serviced before he hands it down to his no.1 nephew as he has no children of his own.
Problem is this . Where we live is a small island with one watchmaker who said he wouldn't touch it ,and told him to take it to the one Rolex dealer on the island so they could send it directly to Rolex in Switzerland for the service.
This he did but the dealer came back to him less than 24 hours later and said that the Rolex factory couldn't service a watch that old and that he should perhaps look for a watchmaker in the UK who might be willing to have a look at it.
So, can any of our UK Rolex experts help out with any recommendations for someone who can service these old Bubblebacks?
Thanks.

@dennisthemenace, got any pics?

And what happened to your avatar?

..sorry, OT..

You're under quota for your OT posts for this month so not a problem + ratting out a fellow member for no avatar earns you extra credit 👍

Seems like he sells vintage Rolex, but isn't a watchmaker.
Thanks anyway, I now have a couple of leads.
I'm just surprised that Rolex themselves didn't want to know.

Mike would surely have some good leads on UK watchmakers who can service bbs, as he has dozens of them and similar vintage. Wouldn't hurt to contact him. He's a regular on the Vintage Rolex Forum.
