Sending a vintage '66 to Omega for an "original" crown

Yep that's right - I have the "correct" crown...the issue is getting someone to actually fit it (and sign off that it's water resistant without thinking they have to take all that responsibility)...One thing is 100% 4 sure I won't be sending it to Omega ...(even though it's an all time classic speedmaster!) ......

Why on Earth do you want a Watchmaker to sign off on Water resistance ?? You are the wearer. You make the mistakes when you wear your watch. not the Watchmaker who fitted your provided crown . If you give your vintage car to a mechanic to service it and you have an accident much later, do you sue the mechanic? You give us Australian Omega Collectors a bad name. Fit it and be happy. Kind regards. Achim

^ LOL I'm not "the problem" here....
I'm not after a watchmaker to sign off on the watch...
It's the watchmaker who won't touch it (and fit the crown I provided) because he feels he has to sign off on it...
I won't bother asking next time

I genuinely believe it's the way you have worded your posts. It is pretty difficult to comprehend what you are looking for. At least for me with my 2nd language skills, I can say that I am still not completely sure 馃榾

no need to take offence.

the forum can be a bit prickly at times!

typically you can advise that you accept all responsibility for the item and they will go with that. If that fella won鈥檛 find someone sympathetic. You could try Lewis Watch Co in Perth.

Alex, I think you just need to find another watchmaker. Your guy is raising an issue that many good watchmakers would not raise. He just wants to cover his ass if the watch is not waterproof. The consensus view is that a vintage Speedy should not be considered waterproof. So, just find a watchmaker experienced with vintage Speedmasters.

^Sure
Perth's a very very long way away and covid certianly isn't making it easy...
Heck they haven't allowed anyone to travel into the state of WA for like a year!
They locked their border!
And who would send a vintage speedy via Aussie post - you can't get insurance above 500 bucks value and I wouldn;t trust them anyway
Unfortunately I live in the nanny state of Australia
nobody will take any risks in business these days

LOl yep..
You got it!
It's unbelievable how socialism and nanny state attitudes are destroying hope and sensible risk taking over here....
Don't bother coming over until Daniel Andrews is well gone...
Cheers

This is an original Omega Swiss made piece from the period. The crown is 100% original and has not been modified in any way. The waterproof functions of the crown are not guaranteed due to the age of the product.

The bottom line is that the OP needs to find a different watchmaker who is willing to install the crown and understands that he is not looking for the watch to be waterproof. It's not a hard job and based on my experience with watchmakers in Australia I'm pretty sure it's not a matter of Australian law that is holding the watchmaker back.
