Ask yourself one question - how many Rolex movements does Rolex sell to competitors?
I would counter with: ask yourself - how many movements does Seiko sell to its competition?

OP, along the same vein, Omega too had their share of issues when incorporating the Co-axial in their 2500, 3603 etc movements, which themselves utilised robust movements from ETA/Lemania/F. Piguet. There was a thread recently talking about some issues with the new 3861 movement!

I can tell you that every movement design is a series of compromises, and all makers have problems. Omega are more "open" with it than most, which is why it seems they do more updates than other makers. But I have sheets of "mandatory upgrades" from others as well...for example I have a Rolex 2135 in the shop right now, and the sheet of mandatory parts changes is 7 items long. It includes problems with the mainspring barrel design, the setting lever design, and a host of issues with the calendar mechanism.

Lots. So because Seiko does it, everyone should? Is that the logic here? If so, it's not terribly convincing. Companies can decide for themselves how to market and sell their products.

My point is, although many other companies are far more restrictive than Swatch is, Swatch tends to be the one that gets beat on incessantly.

But carry on...

I think the same could be said of your point, just because some companies don't, everyone shouldn't? Wasn't that similarly your intent with the Rolex comment? Rather I shouldn't assume but ask. What was the point of your Rolex question?

But my point isn't what anyone should or shouldn't do. Go back and reread my post. I said I appreciate Sellita for what it does to support brands outside of mega-conglomerates.

PS. @Archer thanks for the banter! I appreciate a good debate/discussion and similarly your perspective. Mood and tone aren't always easily conveyed in forums so I thought I'd say this.

Seiko's NH35A is used in plenty of independent brands. Now would they be considered competitors? Ah that deserves a thread onto itself! 😜

Btw, Rolex once used the Zenith El Primero in its Daytona before they made their own!

Can I ask that you take the time to read my replies? It would be easier if you did...

Not sure if serious...the part where is said "My point is'' would be a good place to start reading again.
