How do you actually know when you are eligible to sell on this forum. I know it's related to number of postings, interactions, etc. But when do you know this? Do you just try and sell something and get your hand slapped if you're not quite recognised as a sufficiently suitable member yet?

Just read the rules in the Private Sales sub-forum. There is a sticky thread that explains things. 200 substantial posts, basically.

Great, read the rules, fine, but still not sure how you know when you've got 200?
I think the forum admins shut look at setting up a small "contributory fee", like 2%. I mean c'mon, it's a fab forum and most other places your looking at least 10% for sales.
Might go towards building the forum and providing a safe and monitored buying/ selling platform for enthusiasts?

Yes. You see, the number of required posts to allow selling in the sales forum minus the number of posts you already have equals the remaining number of posts before you have reached the required number.

In your case, as of now, the calculation looks like this: 200-75 = 125

So, you have a 125 to go

Seems like a worthy goal, to get to 200 posts that contribute some meaningful content to the site.
I'm currently at 8 posts, so I have a long way to go.

Fortunately, I don't have a watch I want to sell at the moment, so, no hurry.

Yeah, I hope they aren't too strict on judging the "meaningful" part of every post.

I assume they just don't want one-word type posts to count like "ditto" or "+1".
You see these kind of posts on other sites where people compete for the highest post count.

To OP’s point about the sales forum and a commission- as far as I know (and appreciate) the mods don’t care to profit, they don’t care to grow the sales forum (it is a closely monitored bulletin board- not a selling platform), and it’s all based around the honor system- but community monitored and Mod enforced with sanction or censure if you violate the rules. I like it that. The 200 post count is to give new members time to establish themselves, build cred and take part in the community- day traders can go to WUS or eBay- broader markets there anyway. You learn a lot about someone reading their past posts (most here will read as sellers previous posts to get an idea of who they are) so it gives you a person behind the transaction.

That’s post farming, frowned upon here and you can smell it a mile away. Some rapid fire farmers will start hitting everything with a “cool” or “love it”, etc and try to build up their number count- the mods catch on fast and will delete them- thus dropping their post count back down. Many have tried, most fail.

You're too hard on yourself. You have at least 15...

(Subtract this one from my tally.)

....and to answer the question a bit more... 200 posts and then wait for Mod approval. You will know it is approved when you go to the sales forum and magically there is a “post new thread” button that wasn’t there before. Took a week or two after my 200th for that to change but it did. Again, volunteer system so Mods go at their pace which is absolutely okay, so just be patient.
