Back when I was getting into watches and explored vintage Seikos, I noticed some of them had these lovely stars with varying pointed edges. Came to learn of the differences between Special Dials (SD) , Applique dials (AD) and Extra dials (ED). I still wince when 3 years back I was offered a Grand Seiko First 3180 for half the price of what they go for now and decided to give it a miss because I didn't think gold watches suited me. Ah, the folly of youth. From left to right: Seiko Lord Marvel J14039 Mark 3 dial, Seiko Cronos Special, Grand Seiko 57GS 43999 "Self-dater". So, let's see your Special Dials folks!
Very nice, thank you so much for sharing. I really like these vintage Seiko. Initially when I saw the title I though your were talking of special Seiko’s which have different movement. But pleasantly surprise by the great articles. Unfortunately I have 2 cronos with ED which are not SD. Nice story and very nice collection. I would just like to add that owing a precious metal watch really is a different experience. Probably most have resisted buying one from any brand but once you own one you will probably ask yourself why I didn't buy this a long time ago.
Thanks for posting these up - I just took delivery of a Lord Marvel mk3, 14068. While the movement isn't running just yet, the dial is in astonishing condition after the dust and detritus was removed.
