Hi all, I recently snagged this on eBay with the intention of getting it serviced/restored. It seemed like a bargain that left me a lot of room for a service...possibly by Omega in Bienne. The inner bezel color struck me as odd and my plan was to have it replaced with a correct white one. The seller believed it may have been original, but upon some research I surmise it may have been taken from a gold plated model. Can anyone confirm this for me?

I read that the crystals sometimes come with the inner bezel and it may be likely that somebody swapped out the crystal and bezel in the past. However, I cannot seem to find the same bezel on the web. Most seem to have Black or Red text, but the one I have seems to be orange. Any thoughts or restoration advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

yes the glass and the bezel go together. changing one leads to changing the other.
your glass being cracked, it is essential to change it.

actually your glass comes from a gold plated version.

it must have been changed before.

Omega still has original parts for this model.
if your watchmaker has access to Omega's NOS stock, it will be easy to obtain it.

the case has been polished. it should with sunbeam brushing.

it is possible to redo it with a well-equipped and accustomed watchmaker.

ps: i love this model, Congratulation !

Thank you so much for your insight! I'm glad I got it and I'm lucky to have one with a clean dial. I'll definitely plan on getting it serviced, case properly brushed, and the crystal swapped

What is your location. In the UK the process went well for me / love the watches…
Uncle Seiko also make a nice after market 653 alternative bracelet.

I'm in the US. Thank you so much for sharing. Yours look brilliant! I almost bought a silver version a few months back and regret not going for it. For the longest time I was looking for a blue one like yours. I ended up jumping on this one because the price seemed the make sense and the full original bracelet, but the dial wasn't my first pick. I'm growing to like it though.

I almost considered selling the bracelet and buying the Uncle Seiko bracelet, but I don't think I have the heart to split them up lol. Do you like the US bracelet?

Your minutes hand looks incorrect too.

Several watches pictured in the thread linked above have the same hand.

You're absolutely right, I take it back.

Being honest I have not tried it yet - but the end links look good and solid. It is not like a new Omega bracelet but more solid than a well used vintage one......

I think the blue also looks very good - but would keep the Silver one if I had to make a choice. Some people prefer the blue / it is a nice watch to wear and I like the white bezel.

blue inks were irregular in swiss watches, some heuer, rolex and omega dials with this kind of ink tend to discolor. sometimes evenly for a great result and sometimes only around the markers. great news your dial seems to be fantastic!
