Yep, That was the easy part. Now I have to explain to the client why his watch is worth only 500 to 1000

Ooof...don't envy that task... 馃憥

Great thread. Just curious, why did the guys at the boutique even bother doing any of that if they were still just going to send it in to the actual Omega service center?
I don't even think that watch is all that bad LOL. The service center can make it look brand new. You'll be stunned what it looks like when it comes back. The bracelet is the cost killer, though. Otherwise, it would just be the $550 service and $250 or whatever for the bezel. You could skip getting a new bracelet and get a rubber or NATO or whatever strap. But even adding the cost of a new bracelet, once it's restored it'll be worth, as mentioned, probably between $2K-$3K. So it's not really a money pit or losing proposition to have the work done in that context.
Does it need a new crystal? Even if it does, you'll have a restored Seamaster that looks mint for less than $2K. I'd rather have that than most other watches actually priced new at $2K.

Why did they bother doing it? Probably because I have been visiting the boutique for years and I am friendly with them. The manager has always been a watch guy and he actually likes watches. He probably hated to see it in that condition and once the bezel was off and all it needed to restore function was a quick cleaning and spring he and the watchmaker did what they could. I mean why put a grukky spring on a now cleaned case with a cleaned bezel.

I agree, it really just Needs a service and a band. They have a shark mesh there that looks awesome on a Seamaster.

I don't think it needs a new crystal.

Gotcha. It's going to be cool to see this thing when you finally get it back from the Swatch service center. If you put a new bezel on it, its going to basically look brand new. I had them service a circa-2000 Seamaster titanium chrono about two years ago that was a friend of mine's. He had bashed the hell out of it. New bezel, full service, and scratches removed and it looks almost brand new. When I showed it to him, at first he couldn't believe it was actually his watch. See here:

looks real
Send to omega
Probably close to 1000 bucks
Enjoy forever

A couple of questions.

1. Does this look real? A friend/client said he bought it at a jewelers in ft worth as a wedding gift to himself.
2. Any issues visible?
3. What would it cost to fix the band and can the boutique do it?
4. The bezel is stuck, i assume this is a easy fix.
5. What reference is this?
6. Any warning signs?

Sorry to hijack but I'm also in the market for a 2254 bezel and insert. Anybody know the part number?

its going to Omega Next week

Service should be around $450.00 is what they said. I will probably replace the band with the mesh band and a NATO. Give is a fresh look.

What do y'all think of the Omega Mesh band?

$450 doesn't usually buy you an official Omega service, maybe they are sending it to an indy authorised centre (or maybe not). Omega 1380 mesh is very good, though quite small so if your wrist is bigger than 7.25" you may need an extension piece. There is a thread on here showing lots of these, I think Bradley's is shown there too. Here it is on a 2265:

Poor 2254.50. Owned several, great watches but it could go either way in the end.

The perfect weekend watch IMO. The nice thing about a watch with some miles on it is you never have to feel bad about wearing and putting a few more dings on it. Great watch, wear and enjoy!!

Well, whatever happens, please keep us updated, Omega service isn't instant, but I, and others here want to see the results. I think either a Bond NATO or a mesh will work well, possibly both?

I'll post photos when it comes back.

Probably will have a mesh and a bond.

That鈥檒l look fantastic on the mesh strap.

Are you going to keep the original bezel? I quite like the dings on it.

Looks like an easy restoration project - didn't see anything wrong with the crystal, and replacing the bezel is more of a cosmetic issue but it's not "needed". Keeping it could save you some bucks, but if you want to wear it in front of clients and look professional then it's best to replace it.

The beat up and stretched bracelet though is a "lost watch waiting to happen" - you'll walk around and eventually notice that it's gone when you go to look at the time, after the bracelet falls apart and off of your wrist. All you need is the shark mesh, and save the original bracelet for the next owner should you ever decide to sell and they want it all "original".

Good Luck!

You can also get a copy bracelet on Etsy for about $60.

Swap the original clasp in and no one will know the difference.

Thanks for the heads up - How do we the fake watch parts removed from etsy? There are many and no "report button"
