Need help on this vintage Seamaster from ebay

Hi,

I recently purchased this vintage watch from eBay as a gift to my friend. As my account life suggests, I am a completely newbie to omega vintage watch. Thus I would really appreciate any opinions on its genuineness or else from you guys. The watch just arrived home and I took several pics of it, but I currently don’t have a tool to open the back so I include 2 pics taken by the seller.

From my research, this 32mm Seamaster was from 1950s. Model number is 2828 or 2823 (can't really tell) and movement is Cal 470. From my eyes, the condition is really good considering the watch is ~70 years old if it is authentic.

The dial looks clean. I wish it is not a redial but I am not sure. The hands run fine. Are they original? The crystal and bezel has only a few scratches which makes me wonder if it was replaced or polished. There is no marker on the buckle so I guess it is not a genuine omega leather strap.

I paid $445 for the watch. I probably overpaid but I am more concerned about the authenticity of the watch and its parts.

TIA

Hello @w0ke@3 and welcome to the forum!
If this is your first vintage watch, well done! You have a lovely reference 2828 with a caliber 470, which, if I recall correctly, was a special seventeen-jewel version of the automatic caliber 471 made specifically for the USA market. The crown looks original, the dial is in great shape, and even the strap looks original. The 2828 came in many different combinations of dial markers and handsets, but I think your watch looks correct.

Keep that strap, but replace it with a nice new leather strap if you intend to wear it. Leather straps degrade over time, so it's worth hanging on to the original. Get that watch serviced at an independent watchmaker who is used to dealing with vintage watches, pair it with a new strap, and you'll have a lovely timepiece for years to come.

Sweep second hand looks replaced. Cool piece for the price for sure though. 👍

Thank you thank you! This is a gift to my girlfriend but I am now thinking of keeping it (just kidding 😁)! I will definitely follow the advice and tell her more about the watch history. Hope she like it and cherish it!

You got a nice one for your fist shot out of the bag- you got lucky! As said above, despite not having a signed buckle, that strap is very old, and lovely- but won’t hold up long as they get fragile, so make sure you get one that is to your girlfriends liking. There are also quality strap makers that sell shorter length straps which tend to fit womens wrists better than the one size fits all that we usually see for sale.
In terms of size, it’s spot on for a ladies watch. 32mm was the midsize for this watch if I recall and was a pretty standard size for men 60 years ago, but can seem diminutive by modern standards.
Perhaps you can track down the 35mm version of this watch for yourself and you can both have a matching pair 😉

You lucky newbie! 😀
Very nice watch, and actually I don’t think you overpaid it.
But let me give you a piece of advice: don’t try your luck again, next time ask for help on a piece before buying, not after 😉
