The term grail watch is very overused in my opinion. I think there are very few true grails around as far as the world of vintage omega is concerned and the collectors that have them typically tend to keep these pieces "secluded."
Yes grails should only be certain rare specific watches where there is a community consensus . Not , in my opinion a watch that is desired by an individual and then so designated. Don't care for the term personal grail, to me it belittles the term.
IMO, by the nature of the term, all grails are personal. I may not like what you like and you may not like what I like.
Just because a particular reference is techincally rare (that is, very few made or still exisiting), doesn't mean that either you or I would do almost anything to get one.

Or maybe it does.
It gets confusing when there have be certain watches that have been proclaimed "Universal" (nothing to do with UG folks) Grails or "The Grail" by defacto authorities.
Kind of like a 1980s Hyundai that still runs
I
I don't know who those "authorities" are, but just they say it, doesn't make it my grail. No reason to be confused.
Buy what you like and like what you buy.

No watch is any more special than any other, there is only what I like.
Unless you reach Chuck Maddox status. Then you get to dictate one, and only one, grail.
