Seamaster Being Auctioned as a "Fake". I have my doubts...

Hello, this Seamaster DeVille is being auctioned locally as a "fake". The seconds hand is missing, and it might have a replacement crown(?), but I think it looks correct otherwise. I won't have the opportunity to examine in person, and if the price is right I'll likely roll the dice and bid. So.... If you had to bet, would you say it's authentic or not?

Thank you!

Brent

My gut feeling is that it is legit, but the condition isn't great. The dial issues are obvious, but I think I may be seeing some brassing on the 11 o'clock lug. It could be a shadow, I suppose. Do you have other photos?

That was my feeling too. Unfortunately this is the only photo, that I zoomed in on quite a bit. The fact that it is being sold with several nice vintage ladies watches (Benrus, Elgin, etc) makes it worth going for IMO. Thanks for the reply!

I see no reason to doubt it, but as already mentioned the condition is poor and the dial looks to have had all the minute markers cleaned off. Not the sort of problems that can be fixed, so even if dirt cheap it's not something I'd want.

Add the price of the watch to the cost of replacing parts and servicing it, and it won’t be cheap any longer. You can probably assume the signs of cosmetic neglect will signal neglect internally, as well. If you end up with a so-so watch for a premium price, you’ll hate it forever! I suggest you don’t be in a hurry!
