As you suspected, this went for a fairly high £875 including auction fees, so it was too much for me.
I've spent quite a lot of time looking at pre-70s watches and a couple of servicing Utubes and it has got me interested.
I'll hunt about until I find something that fits my budget.
Thanks for taking the time to give your thoughts. I'll be back, I'm sure.

875 GBP is a pretty strong price for that watch, but part of the value is in the bracelet. You should probably continue to spend time watching auctions to get a realistic sense of value. Even without a bracelet, 200 GBP is really not enough for you to get a decent vintage Omega, IMO. If you are comfortable with 500 GBP, with patience you can find something. If 200 GBP is your budget, I'd suggest looking at other brands.

For an oversize ‘50s Calendar model in good nick? I’m not so sure it was strong. I’d be tempted around that level, the 36mm case stuff deffo commands more

Yes, I've heard that the market is higher in the UK and it's not a crazy price, but not something I'd buy at that level. Watches sold at auctions often have issues, so I'm pretty conservative. I would max out at $800-$900 probably in an obscure auction. With patience, I don't find it too hard to find 36mm Seamasters for $600 without bracelets, they come to my attention a few times a year.
