Hello, all.
This watch is available to me locally.
It has a 16.. serial number so is 1958/9, with 20 jewels and a 503 movement. I can't find any information about the model 2992-3, stamped in the casing. Does anyone know anything about this? I have seen 2992-4 online.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

If you search “Omega 2992 site: omegaforums.net” you will find plenty of info to start with.

The second number - 3 is a production batch number, best to search with the 4 digits only. There are various dial variations usually for each reference in any case.

503 is correct for the reference. But would have expected dauphine hands so they might have been replaced (at least hour and minute). I’ll let experts with these references in their collection chip in!

Have a good week-end.

Based on one photo, it looks promising. You will want to inspect the dial carefully, I can't tell if the marks are just shadows/dust, or scratches.

The other pictures available are below. Vendor has provided serial number and that it is 503.
Should around £200 buy this?

Dial and movement look good to me. Caseback a bit scratched from failed openings but no big deal. Hands probably replacements but vintage
I think 200 is a steal go to shop w cash and report back!

Not sure what currency you are using, but 200 sounds far too low, the bracelet alone is almost worth that much. I would be wary.

Do you see any issues other than hands?

I'm worried that it's a scam. The watch appears to be worth 3x-4x that amount.

Fair enough. I was assuming “avail locally” meant a shop or in person.

Your reactions are interesting and informative. It is in my local auction house - UK. As they usually start more valuable items where they think it should be valued but this item had no estimate I was surprised. My interest stems from my dad having had an Omega until he went into a home so this would be partialy a sentimental buy, however, I have seen similar 2992 watches for sale from £600 - £1200 so I'll have a go.
I do appreciate your various feedback and expertise.

Ensure you factor in the buyer’s premium when the auction time comes. Also worth checking if you can see the watch in person beforehand, if it’s local?

OK, so the price is not actually 200 GBP, it's just a reserve price in an auction.

There is no reserve value, which is what surprised me, as I have seen items start at £300 plus. £200 was what I was comfortable with. I now know, from the comments on here, that it is worth much more than that, so I will decide what my limit, including fees, will be. I'll see it before I decide to bid and then see what happens. I will bid in the auction room. I have bought the odd thing there before so I know how it works.
What I have learnt from this forum in addition to my internet searches is that this is a valued, collectable piece.

If £200 will actually buy it, you really should. However it will go for way more so prepare to be disappointed. Post back if you do in fact nick it. But you wont.

I think it should clean up well overall. And the case being 36 mm (I think) it wears larger than most vintage models at 34mm.

If this goes higher than your limit, remember there is always another one round the corner! The private sales forum is also a great place to start.
