Golly, I just saw this orange SMP in the local AD and I instantly went from almost hating it to being very impressed by it.

Online pictures make it look rather unbalanced and meh, but in reality it’s a very striking piece. The orange of the second hand and rhe Seamaster text pops, but the orange on the indices is not nearly as visible as on Omega’s renders.

For me this is now a serious contender.

Heard lots of people say the same thing - that in person, it's a game changer. Still waiting to see one in the wild!

I was particularly surprised to like the “dull” dial and matt bezel so much. It makes the watch look more compact and all the parts seem to work together more coherently for some reason.

The monochrome black version takes its colorlessness one step too far for my taste, but the little pop of orange on this one is just the right amount of casual fun.

I think Omega needs to hire a better photographer as their product photos don't do their products justice

I was thinking the same thing. I can understand that they use renders on their website to make sure all watches use the same angles and lighting, but they could at least make some better glamor shots for press releases...

When i first tried this on with the orange strap, i thought yes this is the one. However I think it's a great summer watch (as mentioned before if this was on the black rubber strap, the orange is a nice pop on the dial). Personally the monochrome on black rubber is the one at the top of my list. However is interesting to see the future on what route the Seamaster goes.

The annoyingly rational voice in my head keeps asking me what - without the wave dial, ceramic bezel, outer AR coating and still no proper bracelet - what still makes this watch a €7000 piece?

The Longines HC next door is €3500 less and has pretty much the same material quality, fit and finish, 300m WR, and a very comparable COSC certified movement and even a GMT complication.

Meh... I really desire the twisted lyre lugs and the iconic aesthetics with the HEV, but objectively the new SMP 300 is not a great value anymore.

I need to remind myself that nothing about this hobby is rational and it's all about giving into those warm fuzzy feelings 😀

I know what you mean, man! When I decided on getting my Summer Blue there was no changing my mind. While I was waiting for my friend to be available to introduce me to her dealer. I checked out a bunch of other similar divers, Tag, Longines, Tudor, etc. The Tag Hauer Aquaracer was a very nice watch, but when I put it on my wrist I knew it wasn't gonna match the Summer Blue SMP 300M diver.

The design of the SMP 300M diver is just so iconic and nothing seems to be able to match it.

I need to remind myself that nothing about this hobby is rational and it's all about giving into those warm fuzzy feelings 😀
Exactly at the end of the day it's what makes you feel good. I wear my Summer Blue SMP 300M diver everyday since I've gotten it and it makes me feel invincible!
