I'm trying to hone my skills at detecting fake dials. I'd appreciate others' thoughts here.

I was worried about this one for two reasons:

(1) Blotchy tritium over-spilling marked edges

(2) Possible lack of density of print

But, having done some research, I would guess this is a tired, but original dial.

I'm sure seasoned OF members know of this, but so that I might contribute to other similar novices, I'll post this helpful link to these watches:

I'm guessing that this has either foxed OF viewers or is genuine.
I think you need to give it a bit more time for members to chime in… it’s only been two hours and it is Good Friday.

I’m not an expert on these, so can’t comment, but a tired dial that’s had a hard life would be my guess. Ultimately, it’s not going to be attractive to everyone.

You could ask the seller to open the back and show you the movement 😀

Is there a market for one of these (genuine) watches that is a bit beaten up?

I guess it's going to hit value hard - sub $4000? I'm trying to calibrate costs.

My link (first thread post here) suggests up to GBP 4,000 for a rough one.

£4000 would be a steal if it came with an extract and isn't polished.

The dial is original. Simply has mouldy lume.

If I understand your question about ‘density if print’ it’s actually the reverse. Genuine dial text is rather fine. Redials tend to have thicker text.
