Makesbelieve
·Hello all,
I'm pretty sure this watch is fake, or at least a Franken watch but thought I'd post here to see if anyone was able to confirm or deny my suspicions.
As I'm on the slow and arduous hunt for one of these I'm also trying to get better at identifying the 'tells' of a fake 300 of which there seem to be many... it's a mine field.
Anyway...
The watch is a 165.024 - 64 with a 1901XXXX serial and a cal. 550.
Reasons for suspicion:
I would have assumed that a serial in the 19 range would have placed it slightly too early for a 300
I also believe the 'Big Triangle' dial was only introduced in the late 60's (1966?)
I also have a feeling that the cal 550 was only used on the early Ck 14755 not the 165.024 but the Omega Data Base seems to refute that idea.
It could be a 67 bezel but it seems too bold and has a pointy number 4 which seems off.
It also doesn't have a screw down crown so the crown it does have should have the 'Naiad' symbol, which it doesn't.
Lastely, the case back is photographed in a way that the word 'certified' is obscured which is often a tell as fake 300s often have this word misspelled.
Did I miss anything or am I incorrect in my assumptions? Would love to hear what others think as spotting a fake vintage 300 is something I'd like to get better at.
Thanks in advance, and here's wishing you all a lovely evening,
Matt
