Seamaster 30 waffle dial at Bukowskis

I was following the auction on a Seamaster 30 with a real nice and clean waffle dial at bukowskis.

At the end the watch was sold for SEK 10.000 which is appr. EUR 1.000,- without buyers premium (plus 22,5% extra)

For me the watch is an honest example (glas is signed, buckle is original, engraving on the caseback is sharp) with a uncommon waffle dial in very good condition but isn't that winning price still steep?

I know the rule on overpaying pieces in decent condition but heh it is only a Seamaster 30.

Would love to hear other opinion.

Lots of weird auction results from this month in Scandinavia. I think boredom/lockdown is partly to blame.

Not the first 30 to surprise in a Swedish auction.

Yeah this might be a part of such a result.

I thought it will end at EUR 700,- or max. EUR 800,- but I didn't expect this result.

The price does seem steep, although I would never sell mine even at twice the price! 😁

Do you have a link or further information on those surprises?

That's a really nice example. Is it a linnen dial?

I suspect it reflects the asking prices of these watches in the Northern Europe market 😀

I would agree on that the price level in Scandinavia is higher than in the rest of Europa (Switzerland might be an exception) but this result doesn't reflect the difference.

Two or three years ago I bought a black linnen dial Seamaster 30 for about EUR 550 at bukowskis (buyers premium already included)

Hi! I am a newbie to the forum and I have been looking around for Seamaster 30s in the Scandinavian region also. I did see this one at Bukowskis and noticed it was going up and up. You guys make an interesting point about soaring prices, sometimes not commensurate to quality, but I think this is a general trend, which I have noticed in a couple of months exploration between Bukowskis, Chrono24, and some local retailers. Below are some examples

Some of these propositions seem somewhat optimistic in their estimates. Any thoughts?

Be carefull with asking prices on chrono24. They almost always do not reflect market value. I often see sellers state “cheapest in Europe” and then link to chrono24 but in reality there are many other places to buy a watch. eBay or local second hand sites always have better prices if you know what to look for - and my local watchmaker (with brick and mortar) is even cheaper than chrono24 and his watches come with a guarantee and a service.

That being said, prices are higher in Northern Europe than almost anywhere else it seems. Luckily there are many multinational online sites then and no customs if you are in the EU.

Thanks! That was also my impression. Indeed I have a preference for local shops with tons of history. Despite some marginally higher costs, I think that they are forced to keep up with their reputation and that ensures good service. As I said, I am starting to move first steps into this world. I was looking also at older models, but am concerned with the issue of radium vs tritium dials, hence I was looking mostly at 1960s and the occasional 1950s model with no lume. It is fascinating to explore the role of some of these pieces through history, even the more mass produced ones.

I don`t believe that those watches will sell for the offered prices - if I would have to choose I would take the Seamaster from the Bukowskis auction (but not at the sold price 😲)

It is gorgeous, what bracelet is that? I know you wouldn't sell at twice the price, but how about half the price? I can wire the money today.
😁
