I don't dare post the original pics so just a link:
This https://www.bukowskis.com/en/lots/9...medium=www.barnebys.co.uk&utm_source=auctions not bad looking 105.003-65 (with a box and a leaflet) was sold today for about 12K$$ including cost.

    According to Speedmaster101 it should have a serial in the 2282 7xxx – 2544 6xxx range.
According to the description the actual movement was taken from a 2998 and has serial 17765746.

I'm not sure why an incorrect watch should fetch such a high price.
Can anyone help me understand or explain what I'm missing or correct me if I'm wrong?
And at the same time please look at the makers mark (?) inside the caseback. I think I've seen it before but I can't find what it stands for.
    Thanks very much.

The box and instructions?? predate the watch. Movement could be from a seamaster as well.
    Seems like a put together.

I have a strong feeling that this set will be soon sold separately. This might be an explanation...

    Dial: ~$4K, Bezel: somewhere around $2.5-3.5K, Case: $2500, movement, $2500 = ~$12K

and the movement itself could be worth more to someone with 2998 parts that needs a (better) movement...

crappy crown. These prices begin to be ludicrous. I'd be curious to see an extract of the archives.

Here's part of your answer regarding the price:

    Thanks all for the info.
Goes to show how naive I am. I didn't dare buy it for fear of not being able to find and finance the correct parts (mvmt, crown etc) for this watch.
So does that mean that next time something like this comes up for sale I should join the crowd of bidders and cannibalizers and use the proceeds towards the purchase of a real Speedmaster?
