Seamaster 2501.81 Serial numbers

Good morning. I have the opportunity to pick up a Seamaster 2501.81 and everything looks great. However, the serial number starts with 8010xxxx.

When I look online regarding omega serial numbers, this doesn’t seem to match a ‘90’s Seamaster.
Am I wrong?

Looking for wisdom, experience and patience.

Thanks.

It might just be OK if it's a very late one. Seamasters slipped into the 80m range around 2000. I would feel happier with it if it has Superluminova lume, if not and it has a tritium dial then the serial does sound rather too high.

Thanks! The photo was off the net as I am waiting for more high Rez, detailed photos from the seller. Good to know about the lume!

The other question I asked him was about the movement as I read here that the 1109 had rotor issues. If it’s a later model, it should have the 1120...that’s good too.

If there were issues with the rotor of an 1109, Omega has likely fixed them and this would be worth sending for factory service since it's not "collectible", and they would update it to latest specs... so I wouldn't let that stop me.

I second SkunkPrince's advice. I have the unloved 2301.20 with the 1109 movement and it served me flawlessly through the 90's as my daily where watch. I only stopped wearing it in the 2000s when a lifestyle change ditched the daily white shirt dark suit wardrobe. My 1109 is a chronometer, was serviced last year and continues to run great. Just my experience, yours may differ.

If the serial number is genuine, then it will without a doubt have the later 1120 movement.

Thanks and I really appreciate the offer. Missed your post!

I have already acquired the watch but am going to put it up for sale. Like it a lot but don't love it like my 2531.80. Perhaps I'll try the 2551.80 (36M) as the bezel might make it feel just a bit bigger. It really feels like a 36mm and not sure that it's for me.

That's the fun part about this hobby. Expensive but enjoyable. 😀

Cheers all and thanks again for the offer.
