Hi All,

I've been starting to hone in on the 120 (no strong preference between the automatic and manual variations) as a piece I'd like to invest in. Still trying to get my bearings on appropriate price (and I have seen plenty of fakes). Wanted to share this example for feedback. To my eye, this is authentic. Some polishing that went on but didn't look too excessive, lugs seemed sharp enough but after taking another look perhaps they have been blunted a bit, sure it knocks off some value. Movement maybe dirty? Note I'm not concerned with original band as I'd like it on leather or suede anyway. Ultimately I didn't pull the trigger but trying to get the forum's perspective on where price ultimately ended up for this example (reasonable vs. not given the condition of the piece) and of course if I'm missing something and there are authenticity red flags, welcome that feedback. Thank you!!

Here's the listing: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Om...83.l44720.c10&nordt=true&rt=nc&orig_cvip=true

Hello John,

Someone posted this watch in this thread as well: https://omegaforums.net/threads/my-...-and-what-to-avoid.38032/page-26#post-1520074

...and it doesn't look like they got any responses. I'm not an expert, but from what I can see, apart from the polishing you mention, the watch seems to be in fairly nice condition. I'd also point out the the glop around the bezel pip and what looks like a relume job on the non-applied markers.

I'm also not sure about this crown, it looks off to me:

I don't think this price is terrible for the watch's condition, but you could probably find a better example for $1,650. Also, keep in mind that if you had been bidding. It would have likely gone for a higher amount.

In terms of the seller, I'm a little wary of the way he has blocked the serial number with the rotor and doesn't include the serial number in his listing. It looks like he originally had it listed as a 565 and only changed it after someone called him on it:

If the serial indicates the movement is within range to be original to the watch like he claims, why not include that information in the auction?

One last thing I'll say is be cautious about considering purchases like this as an investment. For me, this is a hobby, and while it's nice to be able to resell and recoup my initial cost in a lot of cases, I don't plan to on seeing any substantial returns.

As @sonicosa mentioned, it's just sort of a mediocre example, I wouldn't have paid that much for it. eBay auction prices are more uneven these days than usual. An Enicar Super Dive went for under $1k, and then this one goes for $1650.

Great feedback, thank you both. @sonicosa "investment" was a poor choice in words. I'm with you, not expecting a return or even to recoup on these purchases. I'm buying to hold and to wear. I'm no expert and don't have the time to become one, but am at least trying to be somewhat informed before pulling the trigger on purchases of this magnitude. Thanks again to you both for sharing your thoughts.
