Your SMP chronograph only has AR coating on the inside likely. The AR coating is not as hard as the sapphire is, so it is more prone to scratching. The old blue tinted AR is more easily scratched than the newer more clear AR is.

For me I like the AR coatings, and my view is once they become too scratched up for my liking, I will simply remove them. But it's a personal choice.
