hi all. I bought a po last year, the 45mm one on a rubber strap and love it but I can't tell after looking closely if it has a tiny scratch on the sapphire and can't remember knocking it anywhere ! I have read that the anti reflective coating on the outside would scratch rather than the sapphire itself and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so would it be a good option to get the outer AR coating removed. Please help :(

I'm pretty sure the PO has AR coating on both sides - I've seen similar posts to yours in the past so it seems to be a common complaint. You can remove the AR coating yourself with a cape cod cloth - just be careful to avoid marking the bezel.

Maybe it's not a scratch but some pollution spot that can be cleared by water.
Anyway, I'd leave it as is: too bad to remove AR coating because of a tiny scratch.

Thanks for advice and it's another option to just leave it as only I can actually see it. The AR coating must scratch very easily as I don't even remember knocking it makes you wonder why they even put it on there in the first place as after doing some reading it seems to be a problem

I do not agree, the current coating is not scratched easily.

I haven't posted a pic standy. My profile pic is my 8 year old seamaster pro. The scratch wouldn't even show up on a photo on the po

Run your thumbnail across the mark. If you can feel a bump, then you may have scratched the crystal. Likelihood is however that it just the outer AR coating.

I have had the most success removing the outer AR coating using diamond paste and some gentle rubbing.

Make sure to mask off your bezel.

Man, don't remove the coating for a scratch that basically only you can see... I'll never understand why people always want to keep a sturdy tool watch looking like it just came out of the box when 90% of the time they look better when they're a little banged up. That is actually why I like aluminum bezels over ceramic, I like the scars.

As I read somewhere a watch marks the time for you and also marks the time spend with you.

It's definatley just the AR coating and hardly noticeable. Does taking the coating off affect the appearance at all ?

Ha ha I had a new bezel fitted on my smp as I had scratched it and it came back from service like brand new although I'd knocked walls down and plastered rooms while wearing it. They are supposed to be worn and get a few knocks and dings but it's always nice to get them refinished. Thanks for advice anyway
