Scratch on Crystal or AR

Hi all, my first post!

I bought my first luxury watch 2 weeks ago, a Seamaster Aqua Terra and I love it. However, as I was waiting for the misses to get ready on our way out to dinner I was in charge of feeding the cats and I accidentally knocked the crystal on the inside frame of the cupboard which is made of wood. There is now a mark on the crystal of my lovely new watch and I'm interested to get peoples opinions on wether this is a mark on the AR or the crystal. I thought this stuff was supposed to be hard as nails. It'a a little bit disappointing. Photos of the mark and the culprit attached!

It's definitely the AR coating. I once crashed heavily into a metal obstacle with my watch crystal and it was actually the obstacle that got damaged so I doubt something made of wood could cause sapphire to scratch 馃榾

Is it worth removing it. Seems really silly to cover something that is supposed to be super tough in something that is so scratch prone. I don't like marks on my crystal !

To me it almost looks more like paint transfer... have you tried cleaning it off? Maybe give that spot a few light scrapes with your fingernail.
Usually AR scratches look more like transparent scuffs, and I agree that the MDF (particle board) of your cupboard would not be hard enough to scratch sapphire.

yeah nothing catches with the fingernail, I don't have any nails (I bite them) but the misses has tried. I could try the edge of a knife I guess.

No no, dont use something too hard like a knife lol. That will definitely just make its own scratches.

There is no feel to it at all, the crystal is still completely smooth. It's as if the mark is on the inside but It can't be as it wasn't there until I knocked it on the cupboard. I am taking it into the AD tomorrow to see what can be done. It's only 3 weeks old and as everyone here has said knocking it against some wood shouldn't do this!

Try gently rubbing it out with a TINY amount of water and mild soap. Try circular motion with a light cloth. It could be from what touched it. Crown fully in closed position. Light gentle and persistent pressure.

no luck unfortunately. will take it to the AD tomorrow and have them take a look at the Crystal to see what they think it might be. there is no texture to it etc so it seems really strange

So I took it into the AD today and he was amazing. It's going back to Omega to be complete fixed on warranty. Can't believe it, so happy. A bit gutted that i've already had to send it off so I got myself a Tudor Black Bay 58 today to tide me over until my Omega is fixed 馃榾

A) Great news, on both counts
B) Time to pass on cat-feeding duties to someone with a G-shock

Haha, I have a G-Shock too, didn't got with the outfit for dinner 馃榾. Lesson learned though. If the misses is taking her sweet time and she asks you to do something in the house. take the watch off if it's expensive!

Your problem is the Science Diet you're feeding the cats. Ours wouldn't eat that stuff--even at starvation's door--despite the "fact" it's supposed to be good for them. The watch ding is Karma coming from the cats. ;^) BTW, I couldn't see the mark on the crystal, and I'm pretty OCD about my watches. Must be my old eyes.
