What do you mean? Are you afraid of badmouthing the "moonwatch"? Maybe we are free to do it in here, I`ll start: I think its overhyped and a bit boring. The low specs also dont appeal; low WR, no date, manual wind and that plastic crystal.

... but I understand there's superstition behind them also, like bring good luck and keeping the sailor safe during trips, I've heard the same thing about tridents, therefore the trident/sailing bracelet would be an overkill of good luck lol.

I keep an EPIRB for good luck

Ooh, are we doing this?!

I love my 1967 Speedmaster, but the insane number of special editions and variations are diluting the appeal it once had.

Well I was more talking about "sailing bracelets aren't used for sailing!" discussion = "The moonwatch isn't used for the moon", but I like your idea better!
🍿
A good moonwatch bash -scratch- constructive critique discussion, is WAY more useful & fun so:

I agree, the moonwatch vibe has never grabbed me and I find myself looking for reasons to like it, which may be ONE of the reasons there are so many special editions and variants. I do like the white one, but as the months have gone on and I've gotten closer to seeing it at my OB, I've moved from for-sure-buy to probably-not-but-will-decide-in-person

And, FWIW, on the Ultra Deep I've moved from so-many-trade-offs to definitely-gonna-buy! 😀

Speaking as a sailor, I'd say the only jewelry you should have is a watch and a wedding ring... And I take the ring off when sailing
... in case you meet a mermaid? 😀

Well since I live in Phoenix 🐦‍🔥 my contribution to a thread about sailing accessories is a big fat hot dry dusty zero. I have enjoyed learning about it though 😎 and in August the cool ocean sounds great.

Time to take a drive to San Diego…or in the words of Ron Burgundy, the city’s real name: A whale’s vagina. 😀

If your SO asks you about "Tennis Bracelets", Pro Tip: they're not really for tennis and you don't buy them in the pro shop!

I’ll have to tell her no since Tennis bracelets are such a racket.

“Fadump bump. I’m here all week try the fish!”

So sad I had to type that cymbal crash joke myself since I can’t find the old emojis in this new forum design 😞

They aren’t available if you’re using the forum on your phone, but if you’re using a desktop they are still there. If you’re on mobile, type what you see in my screenshot and the emoji will show up.

And here is a cheat sheet for all the other ones plus the ones that were more of a secret.

Hi I’m thinking about getting my fella an Omega Sailing Watch. He has the sea master and the speed master watches. Do you think the black rubber one or nylon with stainless steel?

wow, can't say without knowing him, but I prefer the nylon ones; pretty high quality and yes you can buy cheaper bracelets but then you can buy cheaper watches too soooo ....

Get it on steel, as if you decide to go to steel later it will cost a fortune to by one and retrofit it
You can always try to get them to throw in a rubber or nylon one the “seal the deal” when you buy the watch……worth a try.

Think they are talking about the accessory ‘sailing bracelet’ and not a bracelet for the watch.

Well the reason I thought that it was the whole watch was this bit in charile85's post "Hi I’m thinking about getting my fella an Omega Sailing Watch" otherwise if I misinterpreted it..... my bad then!

It's such a random post out of nowhere, I kind of wondered if it was a bot post. I guess we'll see if the poster comes back with something that makes sense and clarifies

I think the confusion stems from while this thread is about actual sailing bracelets, charlie85 probably has no idea such an obscure item exists and understandably thought that this discussion was the appropriate place to discuss the bracelet/strap options of the actual sailing watch.
charlie85 is after all a new member and it's reasonable to cut them some slack.

Sounds reasonable.
