Speaking as a sailor, I'd say the only jewelry you should have is a watch and a wedding ring... And I take the ring off when sailing
If you're a sailboat owner or part-owner you cannot afford jewelry. All your money goes into winter haul-out and maintenance costs, plus the wallet-sapping "new suit of sails" that your co-owner really really thinks will make you faster.

Actually I lied above. I wanted the new sails (class rules limited us to seven of them ...) my co-owner wanted a new Decca navigation system. Which dates this comment to 40 years ago. Perhaps sailing has changed since then? 🙄

We got both 😲

Close friend of mine and his wife retired to their sailboat 4 years ago. 1) he hasn't worn socks in 4 years, 2) he said he's never worked so hard in his life and loves every second of it. both of those things are quite appealing. Same as above poster, his nice watches are either at his son's house or in the seabag, but he likely hasn't worn one in about 4 years.

A buddy wears the sailing bracelets and for whatever reason it looks right for him...but not for me. I'll have to stick to my rubber band to remind me tomorrow is my wife's birthday and other potentially life threatening things, should I forget.

Yeah, but that doesn't cover the boiling hot day in August when you're down in the bilges trying to figure out why the engine that's essential to get a boat with a 7ft draft keel out of a tight marina, won't start. That's a good day, a bad day you ask? Sorting out the freshwater system which turns out to have more nasties in it than the plumbing for the heads.

If you're invited to go sailing on someone else's boat take your own bottled water to drink!

Better still only drink grog…….it kills germs so it must be the healthy choice!

I think the issue is that they tend to be worn by men of a certain age, who have the people around them mutter " he is from a different time" when they say horribly racist things.

just look at Clarkson...

The sailing bracelet is a necessary but not sufficient condition for person you describe, here's why:

If you look closely, you can see these types ALSO substitute a fish for a pocket square.

Net-Net: sailing bracelet + fish

Why, this sailor asks, are they called “sailing bracelets”. Unless they can perform a useful function, they seem superfluous and can actually get caught on stuff.

Omega does this quite often; for example:

* There's the "Planet Ocean" when we don't actually live on an ocean planet
* Or the "moon watch" when nobody who owns a modern version actually uses it on the moon
* Or the "sea master" when its owners aren't actually master of the sea

There are other examples as well 😁😉

I've seen them as low as $65 on the seocndary market. But they're always in girly S or M sizes!

Yeah thats better, but still much for a pice of rope and a shackle. I guess M would fit my girly wrists, but I dont want to make my wrists even more girly by putting one of those things on. oops I said it!

I own a two catamarans and a Sunfish. I also crew on a friend’s Corsair 24. On a sail last week, my partner on the Hobie 21 suggested we go in on a 31’ Corsair currently for sail. The withering stare he got from my wife said it all. Small boats, especially beach cats rule!

Even if sailing bracelets made sense, I don't see why I should buy them from a watch manufacturer? I wouldn't get Omega golfing gloves if they made them either but instead some made by a brand specialised in golf equipment.

You've done it now..........we can soon expect to see Omega golfing gloves at absurdly inflated prices!
Not that I care, I can't stand the game of paddock pool, it bores me witless!

I’m a lifelong sailor, both cruising and racing and am lucky enough to own my own boat ( BOAT : bring over another thousand), I have never seen the need to have a sailing bracelet and neither do any of my sailing buddies, however if that’s your buzz then go with it. Never wear a wedding ring on a yacht, good way to loose a finger, watches are good, specially Chronos for timing starts although that’s mostly done on the boat instruments now.

Would you buy Omega golf gloves or bracelets if they were made by Schedoni? They specialize in leather and make a lot of Omega leather goods, and luggage for Ferraris.

Yeah as a sailor, I don't want anything on my wrist that could get caught on a line or sheet and get me pulled off. Lines can whip around a lot. Everything gets beat up on a sailboat. I would never wear my nice watch. As soon as I get onboard, the watch goes in the seabag. G-Shock for the boat.

Here's the thing though, sailing bracelets were or are part of old maritime traditions, but they were knotted, and had a practical use such as being able to swipe sweat from the face. They obviously became jewelry bracelets, but I understand there's superstition behind them also, like bring good luck and keeping the sailor safe during trips, I've heard the same thing about tridents, therefore the trident/sailing bracelet would be an overkill of good luck lol.
