Rude seller/dealer or is it just me?

Are these sellers on Chrono24? It seems like there are a lot who are happier to sell to less aware buyers. Even if they get less money per watch, maybe they make it up on volume.

The first one yes, the second one I contacted directly although they have a C24 account.

Reads to me like a language-barrier issue. Some people don't respond well (even without a language-barrier) to multiple questions, so perhaps start with just one at a time.

Thanks @jsducote I tried this "one question opening" on the third and fourth dealer. I started with a simple "Is this watch available still? , kind regards blahblah". I got response from both in only a few hours. 😁😉

Let see if I can keep the communication channels open now and get some better res photos and a movement pic.

Don’t ever be bashful about asking appropriate questions. Yes, there are the tire-kickers that I’m sure many of these people deal with on the regular (see thread “this is not the watch for you”) but anyone selling a watch with these kinds of sticker prices have to be prepared to get into the weeds with a buyer.

Agreed. Persistent and thorough, but respectful and reasonable. Unless it's a unicorn, another is likely to come along from someone who is willing to put in the work to sell it.

Definitely not you. We have lots of customers that ask for additional photos of watches and we're always happy to provide it to them as we understand they just want to do their due diligence. With that said, I think it's always smart as a consumer to always ask all the questions you want, especially with a purchase online. Keep in mind: the seller wants to make the sale, not the other way around.

I get email asking only “is it still available?” for almost any Craigslist ad I have put up. It really drives me nucking futs. Asking if it is still available is understandable, but best if there is another question there too “can you send more pics” or “can I pick it up tonight” etc

Of course this conflicts with your goal of getting better responses through fewer questions 🤔 No one right answer it would seem 😀

I don't think it's a matter of fewer questions overall, just fewer at a time. "If it's still available, can I get an HD picture of the movement" (or whatever it is that you want to see or know).

Alternatively, a lot of people at my work won't answer a barrage of questions all at once, but they seem to do better if they're numbered:
1) Is the watch still available?
2) Can I get an HD picture of the movement?
3) Can I get an HD picture of the subdials?
4) What service history do you have on the watch?

Soo.. a little update on this, after trying this "single question opening" I engaged with two dealers in further communication. One stopped responding after the initial inquiries and second one a was a jackpot.

Giorgio from Gioillereia Duca was amazingly helpful and forthcoming in my requests. He even made a small video clip of the watch in question (without me even asking for it). I got the movement pictures and closeups of the lugs. The dial was in perfect condition but unfortunately the lugs had seen a bit too much of use for my taste. They lost their sharpness and brushed finish. The bezel had a lot minute microscratching making it almost matte in finish in some places. Something that was not clearly visible in the stock photos.

It is a relief and a pleasure to learn that there are dealers out there willing to do the work for a sale. Giorgio was a consummate professional. The hunt and search continues.

If Giorgio feel like letting it go on the cheap, you could always have the case redone. There have been threads about some artists that do laser welding and re-lap the case.

Thanx for the tip. It was fairly priced but I'd rather wait. I'm not sure if I'm up to that. Might be a clichè but part of the enjoyment is truly in the search for the right one.

And if I don't find a good one I can always start looking at the next ref in my grail list. (*Eyeballing straight lug Seamaster 300's and 1675 GMT's 📖) Im not in a particular hurry to be honest.😁

At least the movement shot is a must.

I was selling a watch here no one wanted and I said I would take a movement shot with a deposit. The watch was recently resealed with a new gasket, crown tube, and crown and I'm not compromising the water resistance for a tire-kicker.

Absolutely your right as a seller. But you said it or let the prospective buyer know of this. Not replying or "ghosting" is just rude and unprofessional.

.. for me
