·Hi all,
Up for sale from my personal collection is a Rolex Bubbleback ref 2940 from the 1940s. If you know Bubblebacks you know that finding them in nice, original condition these days is a task since many online have refinished dials, replaced hands or movement issues.
What makes the Bubbleback so interesting to collectors in addition to the history is the wide array of cases and dials that were available on them. And so not surprisingly, the star here is the dial. Originally born white, it has developed a beautiful and even patina over the years that simply comes to life in the sunlight and goes well with the alternating, even applied numerals. Another interesting aspect of this example is the absence of lume (no radium).
Highlights:
- Beautiful patina
- Blued seconds hand
- Thick case
- All original
Condition: This example is in good condition. The dial shows even and very pleasant patina. The case is nice and thick. Some small scratches here and there due to normal wear but presents cleanly. The Rolex+Oyster crown is original and screws in/out easily. Service history is unknown but runs fine for a 75 year old watch.
Additional Information:
Size: 32mm without crown, 17mm lug width
Year: 1947
Caliber: Automatic, cal 9 3/4"
Box/papers: No/No
Bracelet: After market (non Rolex) bracelet, fits 6.75" wrist
Note: If the bracelet is too small for your wrist please let me know and I will replace it with a strap before shipping.
I’m asking $3495 USD which will also include express shipping within CONUS. Other countries at cost. Watch and I are in the US and I can ship worldwide (with some exceptions).
