Hey guy’s, so I’ve been given a chance to buy this rolex GMT master for a Very good price. Before I do anything I was wondering if there was anything wrong with the watch that can be seen in these photos? sorry for the quality of the photos I’ll be posting better photos tomorrow when I go see it. Thanks

It seems suspect to me that someone selling a multi thousand pound/dollar watch can't be bothered to take even half decent photos.

The photos are not only terrible, but the hands are obscuring the most important parts of the dial. The OP didn't mention the reference, but I am going to guess that this is a 1675, in which case the bezel insert is definitely not original. Either it is an authentic replacement, or aftermarket. The lume in some of the hands (e.g. the minute hand) seems a lot lighter, so that needs a closer look. I'd also like to know more about the bracelet, e.g. if it is a 7206 or C&I.

it also lost a fight with a buffer. not the end of the world but I always am very diligent when I consider buying a watch that has gone thru a serious fluffing. Price is going to be key in that purchase. You got to buy it seriously under the money and not expect it to appreciate like a more honest example.

I know what you mean she’s 70ish years old Though selling her husbands watch. I didnt expect to receive the highest quality photos so I mentioned it to her to try and take better one’s.

Thanks dan, yeah she doesn’t know watches. She just knows it’s a Rolex lol but Everything you mentioned I’ll ask her and when I post better picks hopefully we’ll know for sure.

Yeah I remember you saying that when I originally posted this watch. She was dead set on $10000k about a month ago. I ended up getting a message from her yesterday saying she wants it gone and for $6000k it could be mine. The day-date I got from her was legit my jeweler wanted to it when I brang it to him. I’m thinking about just flipping this watch but I don’t know the value off the top of my head with its current condition. Only thing I know for sure is that the movement has been serviced.

Seems a bit of a shame to be buying a heirloom off an old lady, to be just flipping it for profit...

you should be willing to do your own research if it’s purely for a personal profit benefit.

If she is only able to sell it locally, she may not have a lot of options. And she may prefer the cash to having an old watch sitting around indefinitely.

I thought this also, after replying.

I can’t see how an old lady wants 10k for a watch that she knows nothing about, and probably knows she paid about $400 For it back in the day.

An overall odd thread.

It’s hard to tell from the pictures, it are the hands service hands. They look much brighter that the dial. Also does it come with papers? If it is all genuine, 6k is a pretty good deal.

Lume variation looks odd, might just be the light.. need SN and numbers off the bracelet(which might be correct), a big plus for me. You will need to remove it to get the SN. +1 on the issue with the insert. It’s a replacement. Pictures suck. This is a 1675 and 6k reflects the issues. If you are just looking for a daily wear GMT I guess OK. You could source a proper insert. 5-600 USD for a service from a decent watchmaker.

Most issues addressed above. The lume looks re applied, case is over polished, insert is a service one. Bracelet looks like a C &I. Unless dial is correct the price is close to parts value.
Fine to wear but far from the very high prices asked for a totally correct period GMT. Good Luck.

Yep and it's far from an "heirloom" as a previous member called it. The lady wants to off it along with other watches so clearly she prefers the cash.

why do these pictures seem so familiar

yep you're correct as the OP had posted the pics in a previous thread when he was first considering the day date.
