I love the Rolex GMT also - I don't have my 16710 Coke or my 216710 BLNR anymore, but at least I have this one.

Gone, to help pay for the BLRO

Gone, to help fund my Speedy Tuesday ST1 Panda dial (it felt small on my wrist vs the newer models).

Enjoying the back porch, with the Stargate looking over us in the backyard.

Larry, how does the Yamazaki compare with Macallan 12 or Glenmorangie?

Larry, how does the Yamazaki compare with Macallan 12 or Glenmorangie?

It's every bit as good, smooth and lightly smoky, as a nice highland malt whiskey, without tasting like too peaty like an Isley (Laphroaig tastes like a hospital).

It needs no ice or water, and I would not waste Yamazaki in a cocktail. It compares well to my Glenlivit 12 and 15yr that I had recently. I actually prefer it, and the Glenlivit 12 or 15 to the Glenlivit 18 year that I finished 6 months ago to make space on my shelf (same price as the Yamazaki).

It's been a while since I've had Glenmorangie (Quinta Ruban) but I recall that it and my last Dahlwinnie 15 were a little sweeter tasting, as is a bottle of Japanese Hibiki blended malt. This tastes more like straight whiskey and not a cocktail. But if I had to pay more than $120-150 for a bottle Yamazaki, I'd maybe just get the 15yr Dahlwinnie or 12-15 Glenlivit and Glenmorangie for less.

Also, vs other Japanese whiskey, it's smoother and more smoky than my Nikka Coffey Grain Japanese Whiskey, which I also really love, but def not as smoky as a bottle of Kimiki Japanese malt whiskey that my son loves (reminds him of his trip to Japan and the smell of the cedar mountain shrines).

I have this sampler set of Glenmorangie 12 that I am planning to try someday (making sure it's not going to be a gift to someone).

I’m not a scotch aficionado, but I have a close friend who is (her staples are Glenfarclis and Balvenie) I buy her a bottle of something different every birthday- last year it was a Japanese Scotch (can’t remember which one). She said they do scotch almost better than the Scottish,...just like the Japanese... hello cameras, stereo and watches.

And lovely view you have

Balvenie in rum casks (I believe) was quite nice. And yeah, the view is great - nothing between us and the Stargate except NORAD road.

Japanese Whiskey is Japanese, not Scotch, but it mimics it very well 😁

My son gave me a bottle of Glenmorangie, the Astar, as a Christmas gift. I'm a big Glenmorangie fan. Love the Dalwhinnie 15 also, but always gravitate to Macallan.

I'm going to definitely get a bottle of Kamazaki based on your description. And feel free to send that Glenmorangie sampler my way if you feel the need to gift it to someone 👍

You mixed up Kamikaze and Yamazaki and came up with a new brand - Kamazaki. I must try it - or if you drink it fast enough it will kill you and everyone around you?

LOL! I need to either slow down while typing or lay off the Glenmorangie 👍

Has it taken any of you time to warm up to the older metal bezel ones? I love the bakelite 6542s and the new BLRO but have just not warmed up to anything in between. Then again, never seen one of these in person.

Not really. I prefer the case size and the bezel colours of the 5 digits. Just my taste. The 6 digit Pepsi for me looks ok, but I prefer the BLNR. Having tried one on, I think the BLNR is the best of the ceramic watches Rolex makes - or at least is the only one I’d consider currently.
