    Hi Forum Folks!

Trying to understand how the clasp on an oyster rivet bracelet 7205 can have been shortened or rebuild?
Its in the mid/late 60:s, I can't se the exact date since its "chopped" away...:(
Picture nr one is the one I have the question about.
And nr two is for reference.

How and why could this have been done??

Eager to learn and know more as usual...:)

It's very common on those old oysters for the "ears" to snap off. Not so difficult to find a usable original clasp blade and I suggest looking online.

I'm of the opinion it has not been shortened, maybe just stamped badly...

Yeah look like the rolled part is in the curve rather than close to it

It's been shortened and re-rolled to accept a pin. Common shoemaker fix.

Yepp, you are spot on (again...;))!

Did a little recon and found some more that looked correct, so thanks for sorting this out!

You may be right, but if 'A' has been shortened, then 'B' must have been as well.
The pic does not clearly show the ends of the indents as highlighted by the two circles, but I am now leaning towards a cut-n-shut!

It has been shortened on both sides, you can see it by looking at the left side of each of the blades, examining the embossed horizontal bands.

In some parts of the world like the south pacific, spare parts might be two islands away so stuff is made to work. This type of temporary fix was very common along with replacing one or more of the clasp blades with whatever brand blades matched up size-wise.
