Mesh bracelet clasp question

I just acquired a mesh bracelet for my Chronostop. There is one thing I cannot figure out about the buckle. On the one end there is a hole on either side (see pics). What is the purpose of these holes? Are they meant for a spring bar? Thanks.

I don't know for sure, but it seems that placing a spring bar there might hold the small segment of the bracelet that's in the clasp in line with the clasp and avoid unnecessary wear between the bracelet and clasp. That's really just a guess, though.

Is there a hole on each side of the clasp?
