Ah, but you are overlooking the much adored patina. It's all about the patina. The patina is worth $15k.
I know and I just edited my post. I also realized I was being insensitive. It's easier to understand the attraction to vintage watches when the pieces are out of production and different from current models but ultimately it's not my place to judge and many people love old Speedies so you (meaning I) have to respect that. Personally, spending $20k on one would make me feel uncomfortable and like buying a Beanie. However, I'm quite comfortable spending the same amount (if the funds are available) on a new Rolex that I would actually like to wear.
Fortunately I was able to obtain the Rolex watches I wanted before all the BS started. They'll come back.
A few weeks ago, one of my colleagues scored a DSSD at the Rolex boutique inside Zürich airport. Although this is not of of their most popular models, I was still quite surprised that they had one… FOR SALE!
Had to do a quick Google search to find out what a DSSD was. Surprised they actually had one available.
I went into a Bucherer store this past weekend and said to the salesperson. "The only store on 5th Ave with nothing to sell!" She did not appreciate my attempt at humor. Her response was, "We have plenty of watches to sell next door." Next door were the used watches.
Is Rolex really increasing their supply? This is really out of hand. I remember 4-5 years ago you could find some datejusts in the case but now there's zero for sale except in the preowned section. The new certified preowned thing is just going to make it worse
I see your blank display and raise you a full display. My mother is traveling and sent the following asking me if I was interested in any Rolex watches. Any one of these worth buying?
